How I met my fiancé on a cruise ship 🤍
The ironic thing is, I told my mom that I was only gonna focus on my work and myself while on my first singing contract on a cruise ship. And then this happens. So seriously, if you stop looking and start focusing on yourself, they will come to you… but I’m getting ahead of myself.
1. it was my first cruise ship, and his as well, he just so happened to be a waiter at my table during one of our celebration dinners as a cast before we hit the main stage. He is a Brazilian, so I asked one of the other Brazilians that were in my cast to ask him important questions like what his name was, his sign, and if he was single, or not. I got his name, he is an Aquarius, and definitely single! And after a few glasses of, let’s call it “courage“, I grew the balls, went over to him and asked him for his number. And after a few days, we became official!
2. We took things slow knowing that we are both from different countries and whenever our contract ends, that would probably be the last time that we would see each other. But as we continue to see each other, learn more about each other, laugh and just be, we fell in love! For me, I was in brand new territory. In the past, I have been in pretty toxic relationships where I had to look a certain way, act a certain way, basically look like some sort of trophy. I was never satisfied, and I never had the relationship where the person I was dating actually wanted to make me happy. I always had to do the work. But it wasn’t like that with him. His love languages are giftgiving, acts of service and physical touch. Lots of physical touch. Small gestures like flowers, good morning/good night texts and thoughtful dates to him were the bare minimum which is something that I was not used to, but quickly got used to. and whenever we would have extremely stressful days, we would both come to my cabin, play some Frank Sinatra, and slow dance in the middle of the room, because we are in each other safe place.
3. After our contract ended, we made the decision that we were going to continue being together and trying long distance. It was not easy. And we ended up not seeing each other for five months. But thanks to technology it made it a little bit less difficult! We would FaceTime every day and send each other virtual gifts and still keep the relationship going. But when I knew that I saved enough money from my contract to go see him in Brazil, I took that opportunity and went with it! I got to be with him and his family for the holidays, and it was the most fun! Christmas in Brazil is gorgeous and I loved their traditions. His family welcomed me like I’ve been in the family for years. I was extremely nervous since I don’t know any Portuguese, but again, thanks to technology, we made it work! His sisters became my sisters, and his mother became my mother and someone that he still lean onto this day for support. I believe traveling to Brazil and seeing each other not in a work environment helped our relationship so much and made it grow stronger. Everything after that was deeper and more impactful. Every word, every gesture. Everything. I knew that he was my soulmate after that vacation.
4. We talked about getting engaged for a while, but never really had a plan, he wants to become a pilot more than anything, to be an international pilot for an amazing airline company is a dream of his! So we made a plan for him to go to school in America, in the same state! Thankfully, I have a hobby/career/talent that allows me to work absolutely anywhere in the world, so while he is at school, I can still sing and dance in local theater or bars, or any kind of event that needs a singer or a dancer. And this is our plan! Little did I know he was texting my mom every single day about what ring I wanted and how he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. I remember him asking me “so what ring do you want, something simple“ And I told him “I want something pretty different, everybody has normal diamonds these days, and I just want to have some thing that really describes our relationship and our relationship is pretty different!“ After that conversation, of course my mind is racing and thinking of what I would like ….and then I came across yellow diamonds. I showed it to him, he laughs and says “OK“. And that was that.
At this point in our relationship, we are now with Carnival, Cruise Lines with the same positions. And on the second to last cruise before I go home because it’s the end of my contract, he asked me to marry him with a yellow diamond! It was at the end of one of our shows called “getaway island“ where I was the main character of the story and was dancing on stage. He comes out of the left wing with a gorgeous tux and a microphone, had a speech prepared that blew my mind, and asked me on stage!!!
At that moment my life felt like a Hallmark movie. The crowd watching and cheering for both of us, and the accomplished feeling that he had at the end when he knew that he stood on stage, as an introvert, in front of thousands of people and asked the hardest question made my heart so full! I have found true love, and I am never letting this go. 🤍🤍🤍

For passengers, join activities, strike up conversations at dinner or by the pool, and don't be afraid to venture to different lounges. For crew members, it's a bit different, but as my story shows, 'we met at work' can indeed lead to something wonderful! The close-knit community among staff, even across different departments like entertainment and dining, means you're constantly interacting. Sharing unique experiences in different ports and working together fosters deep bonds. Plus, the shared adventure often leads to unexpected connections. What truly makes a cruise memorable, beyond just the destinations, is the sense of shared experience. Everyone onboard, from guests to crew, is part of this floating community for a short time. This creates an atmosphere where connections can flourish, whether it's a lifelong friendship or a life-changing romance. The curated activities, the beautiful backdrops, and the escape from daily routines all contribute to an environment where people are more open to new experiences and, yes, even finding love. This unique setting, where you're constantly exposed to new faces and shared adventures, definitely makes it easier for 'one thing led to another' moments to happen. It's a fantastic way to step out of your comfort zone and see where serendipity takes you.
