POV: You Want To Slack🥱Off But I’m A “Team Player”
There are so many stories I can tell you about working with people and how they don’t put in the effort and then with the power of ✨friendship✨ we make it through and blah blah blahhh.
But I won’t bore you with that. I rather tell you how I am the complete opposite of a team player. A Lone wolf or and independent worker.
Now you might think how google thinks and believe I’m uncooperative and selfish, and challenging etc etc and that’s all wrong. I am the easiest person to work with or be around cause I know if we have work that is due we need to get the job done correctly and efficiently. Being a manager in my past showed me how differently everyone works together and sometimes is great and other times it has failed.
I prefer my self as a shadow worker. Meaning I am there to ensure all the kinks get rolled out and the work is completed accurately. My manager knows this well so anytime we are close to a deadline and one of my peers are behind {AKA left work behind} he will reach out and ask. Of course if I have availability I take it because at the end of the day the work not being completed just doesn’t affect one person but every single one of us on the team.
You may think this could be overwhelming or cause burnout. And yes it could but I have boundaries. There are four people that can openly ask if I can help with their work and one of them is my manager. The other three are colleagues Ive worked either closely with or for the length of my time with the company so I know in detail how they work. With that knowledge I know for a fact when they need assistance and aren’t pulling a fast one.
And I’m not saying you can’t be friendly I am just advising that you can be a team player without the theatrics of playing BFF. Set the boundaries, understand the deadline/details of the job, & work. Trust me it’s easy when you just focus on the work versus trying to crack jokes.
