My pet rat

You know, having Remy, my sweet pet rat, has been one of the most unexpected joys in my life! When people ask me what it's like, I always tell them he's more like a tiny, furry shadow who loves to explore and cuddle. Most of the time, you'll find him right by my side, or more accurately, on my side – his favorite spot is definitely my shoulder! It's incredible how much personality these little guys have. Remy is always so curious. One minute he’s peeking out from the hood of my dark brown hoodie, his little pink nose twitching, taking in all the smells of the room. The next, he's settled comfortably on my shoulder, sometimes just observing the world go by, like when I'm in the kitchen as I'm making snacks. He really enjoys being up high, I think it makes him feel safe and part of everything I'm doing. It’s not just a cute pose for a picture; he genuinely enjoys the companionship and the vantage point. You get such a wonderful close-up view of their expressions when they're up there with you, seeing their little ears wiggle and whiskers twitch! And speaking of close-ups, something a lot of people notice, and even ask about, is how Remy interacts with my hair! Yes, I have quite a bit of curly brown hair, and it seems to be one of his favorite textures to nestle into. He'll sometimes burrow his little head into a curl, or even use a strand as a little hammock for a quick nap. It’s such a unique and adorable habit, and it makes our bond feel even more special. It’s not every day you see a pet rat having a grand time with someone's curly hair! It's one of those sweet, quirky things that makes having a pet rat so unique. I love watching him, whether he’s just sitting up, grooming himself meticulously, or exploring a new corner of the room. Every little twitch of his whiskers, every blink, just melts my heart. Pet rats are surprisingly intelligent and affectionate. They form such strong bonds with their owners, often recognizing their names and even coming when called. It's not just about giving them food and water; it's about consistent interaction, engaging playtime, and giving them a safe, stimulating environment to thrive in. If you’re ever considering a pet rat, I can’t recommend it enough. They are clean, smart, and incredibly loving companions. Of course, they need proper care – a spacious multi-level cage, a balanced diet of high-quality rat blocks supplemented with fresh fruits and vegetables, and plenty of social interaction. They are social animals and truly blossom with attention. Providing enrichment through toys, tunnels, and opportunities to climb keeps them active and happy. But the love and endless entertainment they bring into your home are truly priceless. Remy has certainly brought so much warmth, laughter, and tiny shoulder cuddles into my everyday life. He’s my little shoulder buddy, my curly-haired companion, and my best mischief-maker!
