Sugar-free Shirley Temple Summer Drink

I love Shirley temples but they typically have a lot of sugar in them! This is such a simple way to refute your sugar intake while still enjoying the drink of the summer!! I used Great Value sugar-free cherry drink powder (the caffeinated one) but you can use any.

Ingredients:

• Seltzer water

• Lime juice

• Lemon Juice

• Sugar-free Cherry flavored powder drink mix

Directions:

1. In a cup, add a small amount of lemon and lime juice. I like to add just a bit more lime than lemon.

2. Add the powdered drink mix.

3. Add seltzer water and stir gently. Enjoy!

... Read moreIf you're anything like me, you adore the classic Shirley Temple but cringe at the sugar content. That's exactly why I perfected this sugar-free version! It's not just about cutting down on calories; it's about enjoying a truly refreshing drink without the sugar crash or the guilt associated with sugary soda drinks with ice glass. This healthy shirley temple recipe is a total game-changer for summer. One of the biggest wins with this recipe is how it slashes the calorie count compared to a traditional Shirley Temple, which can be surprisingly high due to the grenadine and ginger ale. By opting for sugar-free cherry powder drink mix and seltzer water, you're creating a zero calorie shirley temple that still delivers that iconic vibrant red color and delicious taste. It's a fantastic alternative to sugary beverages for anyone looking for a healthier option, whether you're managing sugar intake or just aiming for a lighter beverage. This truly makes it a healthier shirley temple that you can feel good about enjoying all summer long, providing a low calorie shirley temple solution. Speaking of ingredients, let's talk about the magic behind the sugar-free cherry powder drink mix. I personally love using the Great Value one, but brands like Wyler's Light also offer great cherry-flavored options. A common question I hear is 'does grenadine have caffeine?' The answer is usually no, but it's loaded with sugar. That's why the sugar-free powder is key here – it gives you that signature cherry flavor without the added sugars or artificial colors often found in traditional grenadine. Plus, you can easily find caffeine-free versions of these powders if you're making this as an evening treat or for kids. For the seltzer, pick your favorite unflavored seltzer water for a crisp, clean base. Presentation really elevates this simple drink. I love serving mine in a clear glass – a ribbed glass adds a nice touch of elegance – filled with plenty of ice cubes. The vibrant red against the clear glass looks so inviting, especially on a hot day. It’s a perfect non alcoholic shirley temple cocktail glass option for parties, barbecues, or just a quiet afternoon on the patio. You can even garnish it with a slice of lime or a maraschino cherry (if you don't mind a tiny bit of added sugar, or find a sugar-free one!). This little effort makes it feel like a special custom cocktail. Setting it on a wooden surface for that perfect Instagram shot just adds to the aesthetic! To get the perfect balance, remember my tip about adding a bit more lime juice than lemon. This gives it a bright, zesty kick that really complements the cherry. Don't over-stir your seltzer water; a gentle stir keeps that delightful fizz intact. You can also adjust the amount of powder to your taste – if you like a bolder cherry flavor, add a little extra. This recipe is so versatile and allows for so much customization, making it truly your ideal low sugar shirley temple. So next time you're craving that classic shirley temple but want to avoid the sugar, give this easy sugar-free shirley temple recipe a try. It’s a game-changer for summer refreshments, proving you don't have to sacrifice taste for health!
