Get ready to hit the road on an Arizona adventure that will take you through the heart of the Southwest, filled with beautiful landscapes, quirky stops, and natural wonders. Here's a sneak peek of the must-visit spots on your Arizona road trip:

Grand Canyon

✨The Grand Canyon is one of the world's most amazing natural wonders. Admire the colorful canyon carved by the Colorado River.

✨It's about $20 per vehicle for entry to Grand Canyon National Park.

✨Go early or late to avoid the crowds, and explore both the South and North Rims for different views.

SELIGMAN

✨Seligman, a town on Route 66 bursting with nostalgic charm. Explore the vintage roadside attractions, diners, and where they say “Radiator Springs” from Pixar’s CARS is based off of.

✨Don't miss Angel & Vilma's Original Route 66 Gift Shop for the ultimate Route 66 experience.

NAVAJO MOENAVE DINOSAUR TRACKS

✨Experience a prehistoric marvel at the Navajo Moenave Dinosaur Tracks, where you can see actual dinosaur footprints.

✨Entry is free, but donations are appreciated, as this attraction is on Navajo Nation land.

✨Check for accessibility and road conditions before you go.

ANTELOPE CANYON

✨Step into Antelope Canyon, a sandstone slot canyon famous for its light beams and wavy formations.

✨You MUST be a part of a guided tour to see of Antelope Canyon and they typically run between $40 and $80 per person.

✨Book your tour ahead of time and consider a photography tour

HORSESHOE BEND

✨Witness the beauty of Horseshoe Bend, where the Colorado River takes a mesmerizing 270-degree turn.

✨Free for no vehicle or around $10 per vehicle for entry

✨Go early in the morning or late in the day for the best lighting.

CATHEDRAL ROCK

✨Go on a journey with a hike to Cathedral Rock in Sedona. Enjoy the stunning panoramic views and the serene energy of the red rock formations.

✨Most hiking trails in Sedona are free, with parking at Cathedral Rock usually costing around $5.

✨Bring water, and wear comfy footwear for the hike.

... Read moreOkay, so you're planning an Arizona road trip, and trust me, it's one of the best decisions you'll ever make! I just wrapped up my own adventure through this incredible state, and I wanted to share a few extra insights that really made my trip unforgettable. First off, when you're thinking 'driving Arizona,' consider the season. I went in the spring, and it was perfect – mild temperatures for hiking in Sedona's Cathedral Rock and exploring the Grand Canyon without the intense summer heat. If you're heading south, remember the desert can get scorching, so always have extra water in your car, especially if you're venturing off the main highways. I also learned the hard way to fill up on gas whenever you see a station, especially in more remote areas like around the Navajo Nation Dinosaur Tracks. You don't want to get stuck playing 'guess how much further to the next pump'! Speaking of hidden gems, while the Grand Canyon is obviously a must-see, the magic of Seligman truly blew me away. For anyone wondering 'what is Radiator Springs based off,' this is it! Walking down its main street felt like stepping into the CARS movie. The vintage cars, the old-school diners, and the sheer enthusiasm of the locals for Route 66 are infectious. I spent ages just browsing Angel & Vilma's Original Route 66 Gift Shop, soaking in all the nostalgia. It’s not just a stop; it’s an experience, a real slice of Americana that feels so authentic. And if you're driving Route 66, don't miss a stop in Flagstaff, it's a great base with cool vibes and easy access to many northern AZ spots. Another thing I found incredibly valuable was booking tours for places like Antelope Canyon well in advance. I heard stories of people showing up hoping to join a tour and being turned away, especially during peak season. My photography tour at Antelope was absolutely worth the extra cost – the guides know exactly where to stand for those iconic light beams! And for Horseshoe Bend, definitely heed the advice to go early or late. Not only is the lighting better for photos, but avoiding the midday sun and crowds makes it a much more peaceful and awe-inspiring experience. I got there just after sunrise, and it felt like I had the whole place almost to myself for a bit. Finally, while my trip covered some of the most iconic spots, Arizona truly has countless 'hidden gems road trip' opportunities. Don't be afraid to check out smaller towns or take a scenic detour. The state's landscape changes so dramatically from the red rocks of Sedona to the high desert, then to the canyons, it's truly a photographer's dream. Just be prepared for entrance fees at national parks and some popular attractions, but many natural wonders, like the Navajo Moenave Dinosaur Tracks (where donations are appreciated!), offer incredible experiences without breaking the bank. Happy travels, and enjoy every moment of your Arizona adventure!
