Is this unforgivable? Or did I overreact ?

At my mom’s birthday dinner, something happened that I will never forget not because of the argument, but because of what came out of her husband’s mouth.

For context:

He’s white. My mom is Black. So obviously, me and my sisters are Black. This man married into a Black family. He has Black stepchildren. Black step grandchildren.

And STILL

He got drunk and tried to say something to me while I was holding MY niece. I wasn’t having it and instead of acting like an adult, he went straight to the worst thing a person can say.

He called me and my husband the N-word.

With a hard ER.

And let me be very clear:

That was his FIRST response. And he said it with his WHOLE chest

And once again as expected nothing was done about it. We were basically expected to brush it off, pretend it didn’t happen, and move on like he didn’t just use a literal hate word toward his wife’s children.

That wasn’t the first or last time he said something racist. My dad is Mexican and my moms husband has a field day with that.

How would you react if someone in your family said a racial slur to you? Is that something you could ever forgive, or is it an immediate cutoff?

It has happened to me my whole life and I hate it. Mind you I'm just white and very tan but above all else I hate calling people that because we aren't colors we are just people. I would not forgive that person bc I met so many people who say it and they mean it to make you feel lower.
