running with a service dog actually looks like🐾

Once again.. yes. He did get lots of breaks and water breaks.

Alpha does have Husky, German Shepherd, and Belgian Malinois in his DNA (or at least we think) so he probably has some sled dog in him😂

Just because of his title doesn’t mean he can’t have fun because of my disabilities! That’s just cruel!

... Read moreRunning alongside a service dog is an experience that blends companionship, exercise, and mutual care. From my personal experience, incorporating plenty of water breaks ensures that both the handler and the dog stay safe and comfortable, especially when the weather warms up. My service dog, Alpha, has a fascinating mix of Husky, German Shepherd, and Belgian Malinois, which makes him uniquely suited for active tasks. It's like running with a little sled dog energy right there with me! What many don’t realize is that having a disability doesn't mean that service dogs have to live a life of restriction. Just because they have a vital job supporting their handler doesn’t mean they can’t enjoy playtime or bursts of energetic running. It actually fosters a stronger bond and keeps the dog healthy and happy. When conditions are just right—like a cool 56-degree day for us—it’s the perfect time for Alpha to run more freely without overheating. Integrating fun moments during runs helps break the monotony and strengthens the handler-dog relationship, which is crucial for the service dog's motivation and emotional well-being. Approaching workouts with flexibility and attentiveness not only benefits the dog’s health but also allows the handler to experience the joy of movement alongside their loyal partner. It’s a beautiful reminder that service dogs, while highly trained and focused, still appreciate moments of unfiltered fun and exercise. For anyone considering running or working out with a service dog, remember that pacing, hydration, and watching for signs of fatigue are key. This mindful approach enhances both safety and enjoyment. Plus, understanding your dog’s breed traits can help tailor activities to suit their natural endurance and energy levels. Overall, running with a service dog can be a rewarding and uplifting experience that defies common misconceptions about disabilities and service dog limitations.
