Things I’ve learned in 6 months of motherhood

Happy Half Birthday to my girl!!! On another note, here are a few random things I have learned in motherhood so far:

1. Baby towels are kind of a scam: they get soaking wet immediately, do not absorb well, and leave baby cold after bath- instead use normal towels (but ofc get one cute hooded baby towel to maybe get for the occasional photo lol)

2. Every time you feel like you have your 💩 figured out, things change- and that’s okay!

3. Don’t calculate your sleep: it is pointless and just causes extra stress- just get to sleep as soon as you can or when you want to, it is what it is. Sleep will come.

4. Never ever ever leave the house without an extra change of clothes for baby (and diapers/wipes ofc), coming from the mom of a blowout queen lol

5. At night when you’re exhausted and don’t want to be awake and may be frustrated, just remember in the long run this is such a short period and they won’t be little like this forever, but right now they need you and you are their safe space. They are just trying to figure out life & need your help to do it 🤍

6. If you’re a pumping mom and don’t want to wash your pump parts every time, you can put the whole thing in the fridge! You can continue this for the same amount of time that milk is good in the fridge, so if you are pumping and putting the pumps right back in the fridge, you can just wash them every four days!

7. There are usually more little parts to baby bottles than it appears, so look up the brand parts when you get them! It is important to remove every piece & clean them or else they can get moldy. These parts are sneaky!!

8. For breastfeeding moms- resentment towards your partner is NORMAL! If you are solely or mostly breastfeeding, it can feel very overwhelming to be the sole food provider for baby because it’s a hard and demanding job. It’s okay to feel resentment towards your partner for not being able to help out as much in that aspect. If you get grumpy with them (as I have many times haha) just explain to them that breastfeeding is a hard job and it’s nothing against them but to just be patient because it can make us feel a certain way.

9. Those first few weeks have lots of quick protein foods stocked up- protein bars, drinks, etc. Especially for breastfeeding moms, something like this that is easy to eat while feeding baby (which is what I felt like I was doing 24/7 lol thank you cluster feeding) and it isn’t something that would be hot or messy if it is spilled on baby 😂. Also get a big a$$ water bottle :)

10. Before baby comes, just go ahead and buy some more phone storage if you can. You’ll need it 😅

Shoutout to all the moms out there, you’re amazing!

... Read moreMotherhood can be an overwhelming experience, especially for first-time moms. As you navigate through the early weeks and months, you'd find that adaptability is crucial. It's common to encounter challenges with baby gear, like realizing those cute baby towels don't provide adequate warmth. Practicality often wins over aesthetics as you learn the importance of being prepared with essential items like extra clothes and diapers whenever you leave the house. Breastfeeding can be particularly demanding; many moms express feelings of isolation when they are solely responsible for feeding. It's essential to communicate with partners, recognizing that feelings of resentment can arise, yet it's part of adjusting to this new phase. Nutrition for breastfeeding moms is vital; consider stocking up on quick protein snacks that are easy to consume while caring for the baby. Hydration, too - always keep a large water bottle handy! Finally, don't forget the importance of taking care of yourself, including ensuring you have enough digital storage for all those precious first moments. Shoutout to all the moms out there - your strength is inspiring!
