Resource Assistance

A lot of mental health advice doesn’t work when basic needs aren’t met.

If housing, food, or utilities are unstable, mindset tips and “try harder” advice can actually make things feel worse.

You’re not bad at self care.

You’re responding to unmet needs.

I’m currently helping people find food pantries, rent assistance, utility support, and local resources. Quietly and without judgment.

If you or someone you know needs help, email me with a zip code and what kind of support is needed. No explanation required.

mental health support when basic needs aren’t met

#mentalhealthsupport #communitycare #executivefunctionhelp #traumainformed

1/26 Edited to

... Read moreIt's a truth I've learned the hard way: when your basic needs aren't met, a lot of the standard mental health advice just falls flat. I remember countless times feeling like a failure because I couldn't 'think positive' or 'manifest abundance' when I was worried about keeping a roof over my head or putting food on the table. It's like trying to build a beautiful house on a shaky foundation – it's just not going to work, no matter how much effort you put in. The reality is, advice like 'try this method for XYZ' or 'the power of positive thinking' assumes a level of stability that many of us simply don't have, especially right now. A lot of mental health support assumes your body feels safe, you have stable housing, reliable food, physical safety, and room to rest. If you're constantly in survival mode, worrying about where your next meal is coming from or if your utilities will be shut off, your brain can't even begin to process complex emotional healing. It's not that you're bad at self-care; you're just responding to unmet needs. Your body is screaming for safety first, and that's a perfectly normal, human response. When you're dealing with a lack of support resources for fundamental necessities, it creates an enormous amount of stress that impacts every aspect of your well-being. The constant anxiety about rent assistance, or finding food pantries, or keeping the lights on, can feel like a heavy cloak, suffocating any attempts at self-improvement. I've personally experienced the exhaustion of navigating complex systems just to access basic utility support. It's demoralizing and frankly, it makes you feel incredibly isolated, as if you're the only one struggling. But here's the thing I want you to truly understand: you are not alone in this. There are good people and organizations out there dedicated to providing tangible assistance, quietly and without judgment. If you're finding yourself in a situation where your basic needs aren't met, or are in jeopardy, reaching out for help is not a sign of weakness, but immense strength. It’s the first step toward creating that stable foundation your mental health desperately needs. I've learned to seek out local resources, and I want to share that journey with you. Start by looking for community centers, local churches, or non-profit organizations in your area. Many offer programs for food assistance, including food pantries and meal programs. For housing concerns, explore government housing authorities or local charities that specialize in rent assistance and eviction prevention. If utility bills are a burden, many states and counties have energy assistance programs designed to help with gas, electric, and water costs. Don't hesitate to contact these groups. Often, all they need is your zip code and a general idea of the support you require – no long, detailed explanations are necessary. They understand the urgency and the dignity of the situation. Remember, getting help with stable housing, reliable food, and ensuring your physical safety isn't a luxury; it's a prerequisite for genuine mental well-being. By addressing these foundational needs, you create the space and peace of mind to truly engage with self-care and mental health strategies that can actually make a difference. Don't give up hope. There are resources available, and you deserve to feel safe and supported.
