Growing up, I never paid much attention to pride flags or what they represented. It wasn’t until I began exploring my own identity that I realized how powerful a symbol a flag could be for expressing who you truly are. Over time, my collection of pride flags changed, reflecting my personal evolution — from identifying as straight, to becoming a straight ally, and eventually embracing bisexual and lesbian + nonbinary identities. Each flag held a special meaning and marked a step in my self-understanding. I remember the first time I proudly displayed a bisexual flag. It was both nerve-wracking and empowering. It helped me communicate to the world — and to myself — that love and attraction aren’t always so simple or binary. Changing flags became a way to celebrate my growth and to invite others to accept diverse identities. Now, I keep my current pride flag on display as a symbol of self-love and community support. Along this journey, I also learned the importance of standing against homophobia in all its forms. Respecting each person’s unique experience and struggles is key, and that’s why I always emphasize kindness and acceptance. Pride flags aren’t just colorful decorations; they tell stories of resilience, identity, and hope.
