This is what I learned after losing my job

The job loss was part of change in my life that worked for the better. If you followed my series, I shared my struggle with job opportunities, but God still provided. My bills have been paid as if I was never laid off.

The change was to draw me closer to God, to experience him like never before. To see him work on another level.

... Read moreWhen I first heard those words, 'your position has been eliminated,' my world felt like it shattered. It's a truly isolating and scary experience, and if you've just lost your job, please know that your feelings are valid. I remember the initial shock, the wave of denial, followed by anxiety about how I'd manage my bills. It's perfectly okay to feel overwhelmed and even a little lost. One of the first things I learned was the importance of allowing myself to grieve. Losing a job isn't just about losing income; it's often a loss of routine, identity, and a sense of purpose. For a few days, I just let myself process everything. I journaled, talked to a trusted friend, and allowed myself to feel sad, angry, or confused. This period of reflection was crucial, and it helped me acknowledge the 'CHANGE' that was happening, rather than resisting it. After that initial period, I realized I couldn't let 'NOTHING STOP ME' from moving forward. I started taking small, manageable steps. My first practical advice would be to get a clear picture of your finances. This can feel daunting, but knowing exactly what you have and what you need helps reduce anxiety. I created a simple budget, looked into unemployment benefits, and paused any non-essential subscriptions. This gave me a sense of control in an otherwise chaotic time. Next, I focused on my mental well-being. It's so easy to slip into a cycle of self-doubt and isolation when you're unemployed. I made sure to stick to a routine, even if it was just waking up at the same time every day, exercising, and dedicating specific hours to job searching. Connecting with others, whether it was through virtual coffee chats or support groups, reminded me that I wasn't alone. I also found solace in my faith, which became an unexpected source of strength, just as the original article mentions. It was a time to experience things on 'another level,' trusting that provision would come. Updating my resume and LinkedIn profile became a daily task, but I tried not to let it consume me. Instead of just applying to everything, I took time to tailor my applications and reach out to my network for informational interviews. It wasn't just about finding any job, but about finding the right next step. I discovered new skills I wanted to develop and even explored career paths I hadn't considered before. This period of forced change truly pushed me to grow and see new possibilities. Remember, losing a job is a setback, not a reflection of your worth. It’s an opportunity for a new beginning, a chance to redefine your path. Embrace the 'CHANGE,' and believe that 'NOTHING' can truly 'STOP YOU' from achieving your next success. Stay hopeful, stay proactive, and lean on your support system. You've got this.

Losing a Job After 5.5 Years
Getting let go after 5.5 years hits differently — but what shocked me most wasn’t even the job loss itself. It was how fast my supervisor and his supervisor disappeared from the call. No “thank you,” no “good luck,” not even a fake corporate smile. Just… gone. It’s such a harsh reminder that compa
