I’ve had this idea since last summer and finally got to make it happen. The students created their own questions, and subsequently wrote essays about Layla and her role as a therapy dog. So much fun!

Therapy dogs have been shown to enhance emotional well-being and reduce anxiety levels in various settings, including schools. Their presence can create a calming environment that fosters learning and connection among students. Studies illustrate that therapy dogs like Layla positively impact students' social and emotional development, leading to improved academic performance. Incorporating therapy animals into educational experiences encourages compassion, responsibility, and teamwork among students. Furthermore, interactions with therapy dogs can improve communication skills and promote a sense of belonging. As schools increasingly look for innovative ways to support mental health, therapy dog programs offer a valuable resource in creating inclusive and supportive learning atmospheres. In addition to academic benefits, therapy dogs serve as important emotional support, particularly for students facing stress or difficulties. Such pets can act asice-breakers, helping students engage more freely with their peers and instructors. Their calming influence often leads to lower levels of absenteeism and enhanced classroom harmony. With the growing recognition of mental health in education, therapy dogs are becoming an integral part of many schools' strategies to promote student well-being.
