#ad hope these tips are useful to new runners! My @Runna plan has helped me so much!
Hey everyone! I've been getting a lot of questions lately about how I stay motivated and what keeps me going on my fitness journey, especially when it comes to running. For me, it’s all about feeling strong and confident in my own skin—what some might call embracing that 'thick fit' vibe! It's not just about speed or distance; it's about building a powerful, healthy body that can handle anything. My recent 9-mile run really got me thinking about all the little things that add up to big results. You know what they say from Mile 6: strength training matters! And honestly, I couldn't agree more. Running is fantastic for endurance, but incorporating regular strength training has been a game-changer for me, not just for preventing injuries but for sculpting a physique that feels strong and capable. I focus on compound movements that work multiple muscle groups, like squats, deadlifts, and lunges, which really help build that 'thick fit' foundation. It's amazing how much more powerful I feel on my runs when my glutes and core are strong. And let's talk about fuel for a minute. That Mile 2 tip, 'eat your carbs,' is so crucial! I used to shy away from them, but now I understand just how vital they are for energy, especially for longer runs and intense workouts. Complex carbs like oats, sweet potatoes, and whole grains keep me energized without feeling sluggish. It’s not about restricting, but about giving your body the right fuel to perform and recover, which is key for muscle growth and maintaining that strong build. Another huge one for me is rest days (Mile 5). I used to push myself every single day, thinking more was always better. But I quickly learned that my muscles need time to repair and grow. Rest days are when your body actually gets stronger. I usually use these days for light stretching, foam rolling, or just completely chilling out. It’s a non-negotiable part of my routine now, and I feel so much better for it. And finally, a big one that resonates with me is the advice from Mile 8: 'don't compare your running journey to other people!' This applies to fitness in general. Everyone's body is different, and everyone's journey to 'thick fit' or whatever their goal may be, is unique. It’s easy to get caught up in what others are doing or how they look, but staying focused on my own progress and how I feel has been incredibly liberating. As Mile 9 says, 'if you believe you can do it, you will!' That mindset is powerful. Following a training program (Mile 4) like the one I use on Runna helps me stay consistent, but it’s always about listening to my body first. Remember, it's about progress, not perfection, and building a body that feels good and strong for *you*.
