Climbing Mount Datuk 🇲🇾⛰️

I signed up for this hike with my friends and this was the first non-Bukit Timah hill that I climbed 🥹💪 It’s about a 4 hour bus ride away from sg and we had to take an overnight bus there ~ The hike was pretty steep, and I used my hands for a majority of the hike, felt like I was in a giant playground hehe 🐒

⛰️ Height: 885 metres, Distance: 9 KM (2 way)

- for reference Bukit Timah is 163 metres!

We started off at 4:30 am (hence the headlamps) and reached the peak just in time for the sunrise + snack break, before heading back down ☺️ The sunrise was gorgeous, and sitting on top of the big rock, with the (really) strong wind blowing at me, I felt really calm and content 🌅 There’s also a shower point at the base (ice cold water 🧊) and it’s a short distance from malacca, so we had some time to shop and eat after the hike ~

Looking forward to my next hike! 🏃‍♀️💨

... Read moreIf you're planning your own Mount Datuk hike, here's some extra insight that I found really helpful. The trail can be quite steep and requires using your hands often, so wear sturdy shoes with good grip. Starting early, around 4:30 am, means you can catch the magical sunrise at the summit, which is truly worth the effort. Don't forget a headlamp for the ascent in the dark and some snacks to enjoy at the top. After descending, take some time to cool off at the base's ice-cold shower point—it’s incredibly refreshing after such an intense climb. The trail is surrounded by interesting natural features like funky trees and small mushrooms, so keep an eye out—they add a charming touch to the nature escape. Since Mount Datuk is close to Malacca, you can combine your hike with a visit to the city for local shopping and delicious food. Overall, the climb feels like a giant playground, perfect for bonding with friends while challenging yourself physically. Whether you're an experienced hiker or trying a hill outside your usual spots, this trek offers a peaceful yet thrilling experience amidst nature.
