私が柳川を回って「これ知っておくと楽だった！」と思ったのは、川下りと食事の順番を先に決めておくことでした。川下りは約1時間ほどで、どんこ舟に揺られながら堀割の景色をのんびり眺められる反面、終わる時間が読みにくい日もあるので、うなぎのお店の受付終了時間だけは要チェックです。特に若松屋はランチの受付終了が早めの日もあるので、川下り後に行きたい場合は「何時ごろ着けそうか」を乗船場でざっくり確認しておくと安心でした。 川下りの楽しみは景色だけじゃなくて、船頭さんの案内や竿さばき。水路のカーブ（七曲り）を曲がるたびに雰囲気が変わって、写真を撮る手が止まらなくなります。座っていると水面が近く感じるので、スマホを構える時は落とさないようにストラップがあると便利。冬のこたつ舟の時期は足元が冷えにくい反面、上半身は風で冷えるので首元の防寒があると快適でした。 そしてお目当ての柳川名物・うなぎせいろ蒸し。若松屋で食べたせいろ蒸しは、ふたを開けた瞬間に湯気がふわっと立って、タレの香りが一気に広がるのが最高でした。蒸してある分、うなぎもご飯も熱々で、最後まで冷めにくいのが嬉しいポイント。錦糸卵がのって見た目も華やかで、写真を撮るなら湯気が出ている“開けたて数秒”がいちばん映えます。 セットで付いてきた肝吸いは、うなぎの濃い旨みをさっぱり整えてくれる存在で、せいろ蒸しとの相性が抜群。うざく（うなぎ×きゅうり）みたいな小鉢があると、口がリセットされて箸がどんどん進みました。もし迷ったら、初柳川はまず定番のせいろ蒸し＋肝吸いの組み合わせがおすすめです。 最後に、柳川は“水辺の町”なので歩きやすい靴が正解。川下り→食事の王道コースは移動も楽しくて、短時間でも「柳川らしさ」をしっかり味わえました。次は季節を変えて、景色の違いも見比べに行きたいです。
