私が行く前に気になったのが「初めてでも失敗しない？」「デザインはどこまで決められる？」「熱海のガラス工房って何を基準に選べばいい？」の3つでした。結論、studio iiroは“観光でサクッと体験したい人”にかなり向いています。 まずデザイン面。体験は、形と色を決めるところから始まって、色は2色を選ぶスタイル。これが意外と悩みどころで、透明感のある色同士を合わせると大人っぽく、はっきりした色を選ぶとカラフルな斑点模様が映えて写真も可愛いです。私は「普段使いできる色」に寄せたら、食卓に置いても浮かないのにちゃんと特別感が出ました。迷ったら、家のグラスや食器の色味に近い系統を選ぶのがおすすめです。 次に所要時間と流れ。1人だと30分前後が目安で、2〜3人だとトータル1時間くらい。工程は熱いガラスを扱うので緊張しますが、スタッフさんが横についてタイミングや吹く量を都度教えてくれました。「吹きガラスって職人さんしか無理そう…」と思っていましたが、サポート込みで体験として成立している感じ。お子さんも風船を膨らませられる年齢ならOKなので、家族旅行にも良いと思います。 注意点は“工房内がかなり暑い”こと。炉が真っ赤で、夏場は特に汗をかきます。タオルは本当に必須で、服は汚れても気にならないものが安心。髪が長い人は結ぶと作業しやすいです。 受け取りについても要チェック。完成したグラスは当日持ち帰れないので、後日受け取りか郵送になります。旅行日程が短い人は最初から郵送前提で考えるとスムーズでした。私は郵送にして、帰宅後に届いた瞬間に“旅の続き”みたいで嬉しかったです。 ちなみに「ガラスの昔の名前って？」と気になって調べたのですが、日本では昔、ガラスを“瑠璃（るり）”と呼ぶことがあったそうです（仏教由来の宝石名としても有名）。体験で作ったグラスを見ながら、そういう小ネタを知るとさらに愛着が湧きました。 熱海でガラス細工や吹きガラス体験を探しているなら、アクセスの良さ・選べるデザイン・観光の思い出力のバランスでstudio iiroはかなりおすすめです。予約は公式サイト経由が安いことが多いので、行く前に空き状況だけでも早めにチェックしておくと安心です。
