Iriomote Island is not convenient for transportation and buses are the mainstream. There are few rental cars, and there is only one taxi (one driver). Planning and preparation in advance are essential.
Since there are many tours, I think it is also good to use a tour with transfers ☝🏻

Of course, it is recommended for sightseeing in Iriomote Island, but you can also go on a day trip from Ishigaki Island using half a day ✨

「由布島の水牛車で海を渡る」って、写真で見るよりずっと特別でした。浅瀬の水面がキラキラしていて、水牛がゆっくり進むたびにチャプチャプ音がして、移動そのものが観光になります。石垣島からでも日帰りOKですが、時間の組み方だけは先に決めておくと安心です。 私が意識したのは“逆算”です。まず石垣島⇔西表島（上原港 or 大原港）のフェリーを往復で押さえて、その次に西表島側の由布島行き水牛車の運行時間（だいたい9:15〜16:30の範囲で往来）に合わせました。西表島はバスが主流で本数も多くないので、乗り継ぎがうまくいかないと待ち時間が伸びがち。レンタカーが確保できるなら一番ラクで、難しい場合は送迎付きの「西表島 由布島ツアー」を選ぶと移動ストレスが減ります。 水牛車の乗り場に着いたら、チケット売り場と乗り場の案内に従えば迷いにくいです。出発時刻表や入園料、営業時間の掲示もあるので、到着したらまず確認しておくのがおすすめ。天気が良い日は特に、海を渡る時間帯によって見え方が変わって、順光だと水面が反射して写真がとてもきれいに撮れました。 由布島に渡ってからは、亜熱帯植物のエリアが想像以上に充実していました。ブーゲンビリアガーデンは色が濃くて、散歩するだけでも楽しいです。水牛の池では、何頭も水辺で休んでいることがあって癒やされます。名前札が付いた子がいることもあり（私が見たのは「あんず」）、近くで見られる反面、「触れないで」など注意書きが出ている場合があるので、距離感は守ったほうが安心です。 日帰りで行くなら、園内での過ごし方も先にイメージしておくと効率的です。レストランで休憩→蝶々園→お土産→水牛車で戻る、のようにざっくり順路を作るだけで、帰りのフェリー時間に間に合わせやすくなります。海を渡る水牛車は天候で状況が変わることもあるので、当日は現地の案内とスタッフさんの説明を最優先に動くのがいちばん確実でした。
