Harbor seals

Harbor seals (Phoca vitulina) are known for their expressive faces and social behaviors. Found along the coastlines of the northern hemisphere, they prefer to inhabit areas with rocky shorelines and sandy beaches. Harbor seals are exceptional divers, capable of reaching depths of 600 feet while foraging for fish and crustaceans. The seals can hold their breath for up to 30 minutes as they dive for their prey. They often haul out on rocks or beaches, basking in the sun or resting between feeding bouts. These seals have a distinctive spotted coat that varies in color from light gray to dark brown, helping them blend into their surroundings. Their diet primarily consists of fish, such as herring and salmon, and they play an essential role in maintaining the balance of their ecosystems. Harbor seals are also known for their vocalizations, producing a variety of sounds for communication.
