「水戸でレトロ喫茶（純喫茶）に行きたい」と思って探している人に、私が実際に行ってよかったポイントをもう少し詳しくまとめます。コーヒーハウス トロピカルは、通りから少しだけ路地に入った場所にあって、初見だと“ここで合ってる？”となる感じが逆にワクワクしました。目印はお店前に出ているKEY COFFEEの看板。近くまで来ると一気に“昔ながらの喫茶店”の空気になります。 店内は、照明の色味や壁の雰囲気、手書きっぽいメニューの貼り方まで含めて、いわゆる「純喫茶風インテリア」が好きな人に刺さるタイプ。漫画本が置いてあって、コーヒーを飲みながらゆっくり読めるのも、今っぽいカフェとは違う良さだなと感じました。写真も撮りたくなるのですが、ほかのお客さんが写り込まないように、席や角度を少し工夫すると撮りやすいです。 メニューは王道の喫茶店ごはんが揃っていて、ナポリタン、ピザトースト、ビーフカレーあたりは「次はこれを食べたい」と思えるラインナップ。今回はドリンク目的で、メロンソーダフロートとココアフロートを注文。グラスが大きめで、アイスクリームもしっかり乗っていて満足感が高かったです。ココアフロートは、スプーンでアイスを少しずつ混ぜると、甘さがまろやかになって“喫茶店の味”って感じがしました。 行く前に気にしておきたい点としては、喫煙OKの昔ながらのスタイルだということ。タバコの香りが混ざったあの「喫茶店の匂い」が好きな人には最高ですが、苦手な人は時間帯や席位置を意識すると安心です。 アクセスは水戸駅北口から徒歩圏内で、周辺にコインパーキングも多いので車でも行きやすい印象。偕楽園観光のついでに“水戸のレトロ喫茶”を1軒挟むだけで、旅の満足度がぐっと上がりました。次回は食事メニューもあわせて、トロピカルの「喫茶店らしさ」をもっと味わいに行きたいです。
