Florida Caverns State Park
2025/4/23 Edited to

... Read moreHey fellow explorers! If you're anything like me, you're always on the hunt for those truly unique Florida experiences beyond the beaches and theme parks. Let me tell you about a real gem I discovered: Florida Caverns State Park in Marianna. It’s definitely one of the coolest experiences in Florida, a true secret spot that blew me away! First off, let’s talk about the main event – the incredible cave tours. This isn't just any old cavern; these are stunning underground limestone caves, and they're the only ones you can publicly tour in Florida. The best part? It's a guided tour, and our ranger was fantastic, explaining how the caves created all the formations over centuries. You’ll see amazing stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones, and even glittering "crystalline caverns" if you look closely. It’s truly mesmerizing to see nature’s artistry up close. One of the most unforgettable moments was when they turned off all the lights – it was pitch black, and you literally couldn't even see in front of your nose! It gives you such a profound sense of what it's like deep underground. And a huge bonus for those hot Florida days: the temperature drops a lot in these caves, staying a comfortable 65 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. It’s such a refreshing escape! Now, for some practical advice, especially if you're planning a trip from nearby Tallahassee or anywhere in the panhandle. The park is conveniently located in Marianna, FL, roughly an hour's drive west of Tallahassee. It's super easy to find, and once you're there, you'll see why it's such a unique State Park. Tickets for the cave tour are $15 per person, which I think is a steal for such an amazing experience. But here's a crucial tip from my visit: make sure you book well in advance! These tours are popular and can sell out, especially during peak seasons or holidays. You don't want to drive all the way there only to miss out. Beyond the caverns themselves, there's so much more to explore. We opted to camp for a few days, which only cost $20 per night – a fantastic budget option if you're looking for cheap accommodation in Marianna, FL, compared to hotels. The campgrounds are lovely, and it was unbelievable how many deer were walking around at night and in the morning! It added such a magical touch to our stay. If camping isn't your thing, a day pass is just $5 per vehicle. The park also boasts other fantastic outdoor activities. There’s a beautiful spring swimming hole, perfect for cooling off after your cave adventure, alongside several scenic hiking trails. You can easily spend an entire day, or even a weekend, enjoying everything Florida Caverns State Park has to offer. Whether you're interested in the fascinating cave formations, a refreshing swim, or just a peaceful walk in nature, this place truly has it all. It’s certainly earned its rave reviews and is a must-visit destination for anyone looking for caves near Tallahassee or a memorable Florida travel experience!
