AMD developed FSR 4 in partnership with Sony under the "Project Amethyst" project, using AI to scale up in-game graphics to better quality, supporting cross-platform use of both console, PC and cloud.

FSR 4 is designed to allow upscaling to be closer in quality to DLSS, with PSSR developed on the basis of FSR 4 being able to upscale from 720p to 4K, complementing the quality of the graphic effects, making the image sharper and the framerate more stable.

For PC users, FSR 4 had early limitations, supporting only the AMD Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT screen cards, similar to NVIDIA's guidelines limiting DLSS 3.5 to the RTX 40 series.
