Some Windows 10 and Windows 11 users found a strange bug behind power-up or unlocking the screen, with a blank white window popping up in the upper left corner of the screen, before disappearing itself within seconds, even without opening anything on its own. Initially, it was reported that this problem may not be directly caused by Windows, but is likely related to Google Chrome.

Many users have started to experience the symptoms on both Windows 10 and Windows 11, according to a Neowin report. The characteristic of the bug is that a blank white window appears after logging in or after unlocking the machine, which makes many people understand that it is a Windows bug, a screen card driver, or some program that has gone wrong behind it.

But after a user review on Reddit and various forums, it was discovered that a possible origin could come from a Google Chrome Scheduled Task called RunPlatformExperienceHelperOnUnlock, which is in the Windows Scheduler Task under the GoogleUserPEH folder. This Task is triggered every time the user unlocks the machine, and may cause an empty white window to temporarily pop up on some machines.

Interestingly, not all Chrome users will encounter this problem because some have such folders or Tasks, but they do not develop abnormalities. While some have white windows every time after power-up or unlocking the screen, it is expected that the problem may be related to Chrome settings, add-ons, behind-the-scenes tasks, or Chrome versions installed on their respective machines.

For a temporary solution, some users have found that this condition can be stopped by visiting the Windows Task Scheduler, then visiting the Task Scheduler Library > GoogleUserPEH and disclosing the Task named RunPlatformExperienceHelperOnUnlock. However, this method is only a page-specific solution and can affect some of Chrome's background work.

Some users also recommend turning off Hardware Acceleration or Graphics Acceleration in Chrome if they encounter flashing, distorted images, or an abnormal display during using the web browser. Go to Settings > System and turn off the Use graphics acceleration option when available. Then restart Chrome again. But the downside is that it may make playing high-definition video or graphics-based web less slippery.

Currently, neither Google nor Microsoft have issued an official statement on this issue directly. It is not yet possible to confirm whether it is a bug from the latest version of Chrome alone or due to incompatibility between Chrome and Windows. In some environments, users facing problems may need to close such Tasks or wait for corrective updates from Google in the future.
