... Read moreIn understanding the complexities of the nervous system and the impact of trauma, it is essential to recognize that healing is not an elusive concept but a biological process. The steps include a series of reflective practices to shift from reaction to response. For instance, the path to recovery involves sitting in stillness. When we take a moment to pause, we can learn from our inner chaos rather than reacting impulsively. This is where the pivotal realization comes in: your trauma does not define you; instead, it shapes responses that can be reframed through awareness and willpower. Noticing triggers and patterns is fundamental. Each moment of awareness interrupts the cycle and provides an opportunity to reclaim power over your emotional reactions. A crucial part of this healing process is rooting oneself in the present. Trauma often distorts our perception of time, pulling us into past experiences or future anxieties. Embracing the now allows for the establishment of safety, which is integral to recovery. Additionally, the suggestion to craft your own joy emphasizes that happiness is not a destination but a construction made from small, purposeful pleasures. Engaging in activities that resonate with your core values creates a fulfilling life. As you embark on this healing journey, remember that it's a continuous process. There is no failure in starting over; every attempt is a step towards re-embodying the person you were always meant to be. This comprehensive approach not only aids in trauma recovery but also enriches your understanding of self and promotes a healthier nervous system, freeing you from survival mode into a revitalized existence.

I've been on this healing journey for quite a while and have learned how much self care and boundaries can reset my spicy brain. I got a little lax then menopause hit, and OMG I am running to self care as my first line of defense. it's been hard but actually a blessing, because even if I want to carry others water or over function for those I love, I simply can't. if I go on autopilot and follow old patterns the results are instant.
