I think its softness also makes it more ergonomic for your wrists since it alleviates pressure from pressure points compared to a hard surface
This specific one is a well-known cloud wrist rest from Logitech (dupes can be found on Amazon) that I found to be just right in terms of width. It elevates your wrist just the right amount for a comfortable typing experience! Not too low or too high.
๐ชต HARD - HeyFond Wood Wrist Rest
Hard wrist rests are... hard and provide little to no support for your pressure points. I found that this type is great if you're simply looking for something to elevate your wrists to a neutral position for a more comfortable typing experience. If you're looking for one to rest your wrists on for longer periods though, this may not be for you
This specific one is from Amazon and I personally enjoy it, especially how much more cooling it is compared to foam. One thing I don't like about it is that it elevates my wrist a bit too high for my personal needs. Definitely consider the height when looking for hard wrist rests!
