Anyone else getting rejected applying credit card?

From Nov last year to May this year, I applied three times, each instantly denied for random reasons like too many cards, too many hard pulls… Honestly, I think the real issue was the 524 rule. When my Experian showed 3 active cards (down from 5) in July, I applied a 4th on 7/17. Finally, no instant denial, just a “review.” Then came the endless document requests: ID, 2 address proofs, a notary because my ID and bank statement addresses didn’t match, and two months of bank statements. After weeks of waiting, I got approved on 8/11. So if your application is pending, call to ask for docs! And follow up 24h after submitting, banks won’t notify you if something’s missing. Have you ever been through this? Drop your tips!

... Read moreApplying for credit cards can sometimes feel like an uphill battle, especially when faced with repeated rejections. Many people encounter frequent denial notices due to reasons such as having too many cards already open or an excessive number of recent hard credit inquiries. One critical concept to understand in this process is the "524 rule," which roughly translates to a recommendation not to open more than four credit cards within a 24-month period to avoid penalty from issuers. In the shared credit card journey, the applicant faced three immediate denials before finally moving to a "review" stage, which involved extensive document verification. This is common as banks often require proof of identity, address, and stable financials before approving new credit lines. If you find yourself in a similar situation, it’s important to be proactive: call the bank to confirm if additional documents are needed and follow up regularly, since banks may not notify applicants automatically if paperwork is incomplete. Additionally, mismatches between ID and bank statement addresses can trigger notarization requests; hence, ensuring consistency in your address documents can help ease the process. Keeping close tabs on your credit card count and credit inquiries, improving your credit score, and maintaining organized financial documents are all practical steps to improve your application success rate. Remember, persistence and patience are essential. Each application teaches you more about how banks evaluate risk and what documentation is vital. Sharing experiences in forums and communities can provide valuable insights and moral support as you navigate the complexities of credit card applications.

I haven’t gotten a real credit card but that’s because I’ve had a hard time creating a more diverse history and I had a lot of identity theft when I first turned 18. I also haven’t gone as far as getting a secured card, which doesn’t nearly interest me as much.

Credit repair isn’t magic. It’s paperwork + patience + rebuilding smart. The biggest mistake people make is either disputing everything with no proof, or only disputing but never fixing the habits that caused the score to drop. Do it like this: map your reports, dispute the right stuff first, hi
