Spoiler: it’s not what I thought!

I had a hilarious talk with my guy friends last night that totally flipped my assumptions. I’ve always heard women “notice the little things first” smile, posture, how someone talks but when I asked the guys what they lock onto first? Their answers were all over the place, not just the “cherries or peach” stereotype I expected.

One friend swore he notices eyes first (“They say everything!”), another admitted it’s a woman’s laugh (“If she’s genuinely having fun, that’s attractive”), and a third? He said shoes “Weird, I know, but it says a lot about style and effort.” I teased them for breaking the “guys only notice curves” myth, and they argued women are the ones with the “universal first glance” (we’re not, my girlfriends all have different answers too).

So do guys really have more varied first impressions than we think? What’s your/your men's first move when meeting a woman/you? Is the “curves first” trope totally outdated?

#Letschat #Asklemon8 #DatingMyth

2025/12/7 Edited to

... Read moreWhen trying to understand what captures guys’ attention at first glance, it’s clear that the popular stereotype—guys only noticing 'curves'—is becoming less relevant. Many men are more attuned to subtler cues that convey personality, style, and authenticity. For instance, eyes are often cited because they reveal genuine emotion and can be highly expressive. A woman’s laugh can also reveal her mood and naturalness, making approachability a key factor in attraction. Interestingly, shoes may seem like an unusual focus, but they can communicate a person’s sense of style and effort put into their appearance, which some guys find telling. This variety in what men notice first highlights how first impressions are complex and individualized. It's not just about physical traits but also how someone presents themselves and the vibe they give off. This dynamic further suggests that attraction is multifaceted, involving both visual and behavioral elements. Likewise, women also vary greatly in what they notice first, debunking the notion of any one 'universal first glance' across genders. Discussion about first impressions can deepen our understanding of social cues and dating expectations. Ultimately, this insight encourages more open-mindedness about how attraction works, emphasizing authenticity and mutual connection rather than fixed superficial assumptions. It’s refreshing to see conversations that challenge outdated dating myths and open the door for richer, more meaningful interactions.

When my now husband and I went on our first date, my husband told me much later (and still brings it up now from time to time; he brought it up two days ago, in fact) the first things he noticed about me were my hair (it was a deepish purple red and cut in a choppy pixie w/long bangs at the time) my boots (knee high goth/combat looking boots with buckled straps from the tops of the boots down to the ankles (about every three inches) and my olive/army green right above my knees shirt-dress.
