9 years of creative growth

I first attempted to paint this portrait of my grandparents when I was 16. At the time I was extremely proud of the portrait. Now, at 25 years old, I never could have imagined how much I would grow as an artist.

My grandparents were very supportive of my art. While painting this I couldnt help but think how proud they would be of my progress. In that moment, my grandmothers favorite song came on (deitrick haddon- well done) and I cried while painting.

Artistic growth often involves a deep emotional journey, intertwined with personal experiences and milestones. This reflection highlights how supportive figures in our lives can shape our creative paths. The journey from one artistic stage to another, particularly over an extended period like nine years, showcases how every artwork reflects our personal and professional evolutions. As artists, we experience both triumphs and challenges, allowing us to tap into our vulnerabilities and express our authentic selves through our work. Engaging with our roots can offer profound insights, as seen through the lens of family support and emotional connections. Artists can also look to communities, both online and offline, to share their progresses and challenges, creating relatable narratives that resonate with viewers. Now, as I look towards the future, I'm excited for what my next year will bring, continuing to embrace vulnerability and creativity in my artwork. Such reflections benefit both emerging and established artists, encouraging open conversations around growth and the emotional weight of our artistic journeys.
