Debt advice I actually needed 👩🏻‍🎓🌱

8/16 Edited to

... Read moreWhen I first embarked on my debt-free journey, I quickly realized that simply focusing on paying down my balance wasn’t enough. The debt advice I found most valuable emphasized understanding my spending patterns and creating a sustainable budget tailored to my lifestyle. For instance, keeping a small emergency fund was a game changer; it prevented unexpected expenses from pushing me back onto credit cards. I allocated specific percentages of my income for essentials like groceries and gas, alongside manageable amounts for dining out and personal treats, which kept my morale high and prevented burnout. Another key lesson was deciding in advance how to use any extra income—whether from bonuses, tax refunds, or leftover budget money—to avoid mindless spending and accelerate debt repayment. This strategy gave me control and clarity over my finances. Most importantly, dismantling my debt forced me to completely change how I managed money, focusing not just on the numbers but on my habits. The most helpful debt advice wasn’t just paying off $35K+ of debt, but learning how to budget and manage finances so I wouldn’t fall into debt again. This approach has truly transformed my financial life, making it sustainable and less stressful.
