The Life of a Rockstar
In software engineering, everyone aspires to be a “rockstar developer,” but what does that actually mean?
To most, a rockstar developer is a programmer who can fix any issue you throw at them with lightning speed, affording said programmer more time to focus on League of Legends, Fortnite, or whatever time-waste they are invested in. This isn’t what I aspire to be.
In my opinion, a rockstar developer is a developer who is seasoned, who has honed their craft, learned through repetition, and can step back, see the forest for the trees, and identify potential problems ahead of time before stuff starts breaking. A rockstar developer enjoys their job, enjoys their free time, and enjoys their life outside of software development.
I’ve been traveling around the world over the last 5 years. Learning new languages, learning new cultures, learning new perspectives. A life in constant motion has me literally feeling like a rockstar on a world tour, and I love it.
