The Hidden Mental Load Moms Carry (And Why Building a Business Feels So Hard)

Nobody really talks about the mental load moms carry.

You're remembering dentist appointments while answering work emails.

You're planning dinner while folding laundry.

You're mentally packing tomorrow's lunch while replying to text messages.

You're thinking about birthdays, bills, permission slips, groceries, and that thing you promised yourself you'd do three weeks ago.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that...

You keep telling yourself you're going to build your dream business.

Then the guilt creeps in because another day went by.

Here's what I've learned:

You don't need to become more disciplined.

You need systems that work with your life instead of expecting your life to slow down.

The women who build successful brands aren't doing less.

They're just carrying less of the decision-making because they've created processes that make showing up easier.

That's the shift.

Not perfection.

Not hustle.

Just fewer decisions and more intention.

🤍 If this feels like your life right now, drop a 🙋🏽‍♀️ below. I want you to know you're not the only one trying to hold everything together.

I help women like you build brands and get paid online. Join Digital Boss Circle: The Community. Link in bio. 😘🫶🏽

... Read moreAs a mom trying to start or grow a business, I’ve personally felt the relentless pull of the mental load described here. The nonstop stream of thoughts about family obligations, household tasks, and personal goals can overwhelm even the most determined women. One powerful lesson I’ve learned is that increasing discipline alone is not the answer. Instead, creating systems tailored to your unique life situation can transform your daily workflow. For example, I started batching similar tasks together—like scheduling all appointments at once or designating specific times for email and social media replies. This drastically reduced the number of decisions I had to make each day, freeing mental energy to focus on building my brand. Another key strategy was simplifying certain routines, such as meal planning or setting reminders for recurring events, so they require minimal thought. This process requires some upfront work but pays off by making your business goals feel achievable amidst life’s chaos. Importantly, it shifts focus from striving for perfection or relentless hustle to prioritizing intention and manageable steps. Through small systems that carry part of the load, I found myself less burdened by guilt and more capable of showing up for both my family and my business. If you find your "mom brain" constantly racing with to-dos and business dreams, know you’re not alone. Step back, identify where your mental load is heaviest, and experiment with creating systems that lighten your daily decision-making. With time, building your dream business alongside motherhood doesn’t have to feel impossible—it becomes an empowering journey shaped by intentional actions and realistic expectations.
