I love the ocean the only time I’ve been near The Atlantic Ocean is when I went to Daytona Beach + sailed on Caribbean cruises from Port Canaveral Miami, and Fort Lauderdale.. I love lakes as well.
Spending time near the ocean has always been a personal source of comfort and healing for me. The gentle rhythm of the waves naturally encourages slower, more mindful breathing, which immediately calms the nervous system. I remember once feeling particularly stressed, but after sitting near the water and focusing on the horizon, I noticed my heart rate slowing and a deep sense of peace settling in. One fascinating aspect I’ve learned about is how the color blue of the ocean and sky plays a significant role in lowering blood pressure and promoting relaxation. This aligns with my experiences during visits to places like Daytona Beach and Caribbean cruises, where the vast blue water seemed to refresh both body and mind. Another surprising benefit is the ocean’s saltwater, rich in magnesium and other minerals, which can help reduce inflammation and improve skin health. After a day swimming in the sea, my skin often feels rejuvenated and calm. Moreover, the ocean releases dimethyl sulfide—an ocean scent compound—that enhances feelings of relaxation, contributing to the therapeutic atmosphere. The crashing waves generate negative ions, a natural element known to boost mood and reduce stress. Personally, I find that walking along the shore with the sound of waves helps me clear mental clutter and sharpen my focus—known as the horizon effect. This mental clarity can be incredibly grounding, especially when life feels overwhelming. Whether it’s the ocean’s scent, the sound of waves, or the visual expanse of water meeting sky, these elements come together to provide a holistic healing experience. For those who don’t live near the ocean, visiting lakes can sometimes provide similar calming effects thanks to their natural surroundings. Engaging with these natural water environments has been a meaningful part of my relaxation and healing journey, and I encourage others to explore what these natural elements can offer them.
