Work life balance as a Dr. ( to be a good Dr.)

Maintaining a work-life balance as a psychiatry resident can be HARD due to long hours, emotional demands, and the need to keep up with academic responsibilities. BUT achieving this balance is crucial for your well-being and effectiveness as a physician, so here are my tips:

- do more of things that bring you joy ( for me, that's the farmer's market)

- try new hobbies ( pottery, or a sport !)

- spend time with friends

- practice self care ( whatever that looks like for you)

I promise doing these things will make you a better and HAPPIER physician.

As a psychiatry resident, you are faced with long hours and emotional stresses, which can lead to burnout if not properly managed. Engaging in activities that bring joy is essential; consider visiting local farmer's markets or exploring creative hobbies like pottery. Additionally, strengthening social bonds through time spent with friends can provide crucial support during challenging times. Prioritizing self-care is another key aspect, ensuring you dedicate time to replenish your energy and mental health. This may include physical activities, mindfulness practices, or simply indulging in your favorite pastimes. Incorporating these elements into your routine not only promotes personal happiness but also enhances your overall effectiveness as a physician. By balancing your professional and personal life, you cultivate a healthier mindset that enables you to provide better care to your patients while nurturing your well-being.
