Gay? Elf named Doti

Hey everyone! I'm so thrilled to dive deeper into my process for creating Doti, my new gay elf D&D character! When I started brainstorming, I really wanted to bring a unique and authentic personality to the table, and exploring LGBTQ+ representation in D&D is something I'm passionate about. For Doti, my vision started with wanting a charming, perhaps slightly mischievous, gay elf. I imagined him with striking short red hair that really pops, and those classic pointed ears that give elves their distinctive look. But I also added a little twist with fangs – maybe he's a dhampir, or just has a fun, slightly predatory edge! Visually, I played around with different looks. You might have seen some of the early sketches where he's rocking a blue slip dress with a pearl necklace, which I think perfectly captures a blend of elegance and playful defiance. Other concepts included a more casual crop top and shorts, and a sophisticated long-sleeved shirt, showing his versatility and flair. I love how these various expressions and outfits really help bring out his multifaceted personality even before the first dice roll. Creating a gay D&D character, especially an elf, opens up so many amazing storytelling possibilities. It's not just about their sexual orientation, but how that intersects with their culture, their experiences, and their place in the world. For Doti, I'm thinking about his backstory – perhaps he comes from an elven society that's very accepting, or maybe he's journeyed to find a place where he truly belongs. This adds layers to his motivations and interactions with other characters. When you're designing your own gay elf or any LGBTQ+ D&D character, I'd suggest thinking about a few things: Beyond Stereotypes: While it’s great to embrace certain aesthetics (like the 'twink elf' vibe if that fits your character!), try to give them depth beyond just their orientation. What are their hobbies? Their fears? Their dreams? Personality First: Build their core personality. Is Doti a friendly elf? Is he sarcastic, wise, impulsive? How does his identity inform, but not define, these traits? Integration into the World: How does the campaign setting react to his identity? Is it a non-issue, or does it present unique challenges or opportunities for alliances? This can lead to rich roleplaying. Visual Cues: Just like Doti's red hair and specific outfits tell a story, think about how appearance reflects personality. Does their style reflect their confidence, their rebelliousness, or their desire to blend in? I'm still fleshing out all the details for Doti, but seeing him come to life on the character sheet has been so rewarding. I can't wait to play him and see what adventures he gets into!
