5 habits to start before college to be successful!

I'll be going into my third-year of college in the fall. I'm super excited, especially because I already know what habits to build in order to be successful!

I've found that building habits NOW IN THE SUMMER makes it A LOT easier to continue the habits during the school year. If you keep up with these habits every day, then you're going to have a really strong and healthy routine.

It can be really difficult to build a new routine and adjust while at college, which is why I suggest building them NOW. Of course, you won't be able to build every single one. But going in with a few good healthy habits sets a good precedent for the school year!

Here are some GOOD HABITS to BUILD:

💐 Staying well hydrated

💐 Cooking for yourself

💐 Practicing gratitude in the morning

💐 Getting enough sleep

💐 Stretching every single day

Here are some BAD HABITS to BREAK:

❌ Eating poorly and not fueling your body

❌ Being late to things

❌ Sleeping in TOO late

❌ Not reading a variety of material

❌ Procrasting things (esp those that take 5 mins!)

Let me know if you guys want another part! I have lots of ideas for other habits!!

... Read moreHey future college students! I'm here to share a secret weapon that completely transformed my productivity and stress levels, especially when I was tackling those pre-college jitters and then diving into my first year: the Pomodoro Technique. You might've heard of it, but have you tried the 'kitty pomodoro' version? It's a game-changer for staying focused and making studying feel a little less daunting. For anyone unfamiliar, the Pomodoro Technique is incredibly simple yet effective. You choose a single task, set a timer for 25 minutes, and commit to absolute 'TASK FOCUSING' on that one thing. No checking your phone, no other tabs, just pure, unadulterated concentration. Once the timer rings, you take a short, 5-minute break. After completing four of these 25-minute 'pomodoros,' you reward yourself with a longer break, typically 15-30 minutes. This method helped me break down huge assignments into manageable chunks, making them far less intimidating. What I loved about searching for 'kitty pomodoro' apps or online timers is how they add a touch of fun and personality to what could otherwise feel like a rigid schedule. There are so many adorable options with little cats 'helping' you stay on track! During those quick 5-minute breaks, I found it was the perfect time to do something small but impactful. Instead of mindlessly scrolling, I might use those minutes to quickly 'MAKE THE BED' – a tiny win that sets a positive tone for the day – or grab a glass of water to ensure I'm staying hydrated. These micro-habits truly add up! This structured approach isn't just for studying; it’s a brilliant way to manage any task that requires sustained attention. It's particularly useful for college, where you're juggling readings, papers, and projects. By consistently practicing 'TASK FOCUSING,' you train your brain to concentrate better and resist distractions. I've personally noticed a huge improvement in my ability to dive deep into a subject without constantly getting sidetracked. Beyond just productivity, integrating the Pomodoro Technique helped me realize the importance of holistic well-being. Those longer breaks after four pomodoros became sacred time for my 'DAILY HOBBIES.' Whether it was sketching, listening to a podcast, or even just stepping outside for some fresh air, these non-academic activities were crucial for stress reduction and preventing burnout. It's about balancing intense focus with genuine rest, rather than just shifting from one demanding task to another. And let's not forget the connection to 'HEALTHY EATING.' When you're in a focused Pomodoro session, you're less likely to mindlessly snack on unhealthy things. You can plan your meals and snacks for your breaks, ensuring you're properly fueling your body. This combination of structured work, intentional breaks, and mindful self-care creates a powerful routine that sets you up for not just academic success, but also a healthier and happier college experience. So, if you're looking for a simple yet effective way to supercharge your study habits before college, give the 'kitty pomodoro' method a try – you might just find it's your new best friend!
