Why he can’t leave you (The Sunk Cost Fallacy).

Psychology Series: Part 26 ♟️

Why does he stay with the girl who is "high maintenance"? And leave the "Chill Girl" who asks for nothing?

It’s called the Sunk Cost Fallacy. Psychology proves that humans value what they Pay For. If you are free, low-maintenance, and always available... your value is Low. If he has to invest Time, Money, and Energy to be with you... you become Essential.

Here is how to use Sunk Cost to make him addicted:

1️⃣ Let Him Travel to You

The Mistake: Meeting him "halfway" to be nice. ❌

The Hack: Let him come to you.

Psychology: The effort of the journey increases the value of the destination (You).

2️⃣ The "I Need Advice" Strategy

The Hack: Don't just ask for physical help; ask for mental investment.

Action: "I have a dilemma at work, and I trust your judgment. What would you do?"

Result: He invests his brainpower in your life. Now he wants to stick around to see the result.

3️⃣ Financial/Material Investment

The Reality: Men value what they spend money on.

The Hack: Don't be afraid to let him pay for the date.

Why: It’s not about the money; it’s about the Psychological Commitment.

The Takeaway: Stop saving him effort. You are robbing him of the chance to fall in love with you.

Save this to start raising your value! 👇

... Read moreI remember scrolling through articles about relationships, wondering why some dynamics just felt...stuck. That’s when I stumbled upon the sunk cost fallacy concept, and honestly, it was a lightbulb moment! At first, I thought it only applied to business or investing, but then I started seeing its impact everywhere, especially in sunk cost fallacy relationships. It's this fascinating psychological bias where we tend to continue investing in something because of what we've already put in, even if it might not be the best decision moving forward. But here's the twist: understanding this isn't about being manipulative; it's about recognizing how value is perceived and how to encourage healthy, reciprocal investment. For example, when it comes to Investment #1: Time & Effort, I used to bend over backward to make things easy. Always driving to him, always accommodating his schedule. I thought I was being a 'chill girl,' but what I was actually doing was minimizing his investment! Now, I’ve learned to let him take the lead more often. Suggesting a date spot that's a bit out of his way, or letting him plan our weekend getaway. It’s not about being difficult; it's about allowing him the opportunity to put in the effort. When he invests his time and energy into making plans or traveling to see me, he naturally values the experience (and me!) more because of that personal contribution. It really highlights the 'time invested fallacy' – the more time someone puts in, the harder it is for them to walk away from that investment. Then there's Investment #2: Emotional Currency. This one blew my mind. I used to think I had to be strong and independent all the time, never showing vulnerability or asking for help. But I learned that allowing someone to invest their mental and emotional energy in your life is incredibly bonding. It's not just about a work dilemma; it could be asking for his perspective on a tough family situation, or his opinion on a creative project I'm working on. When you ask, "What would you do?" or "I really value your insight on this," you're inviting him to share his wisdom and problem-solving skills. When he invests his brainpower, he becomes more emotionally tied to your success and well-being. He wants to see things through because he feels like he's a part of it, strengthening the sunk cost fallacy in relationships aspect. It makes him feel needed, respected, and deeply connected. And yes, the financial aspect. It's not about the money itself, but the psychological commitment behind it. When someone chooses to spend money on an experience with you – a nice dinner, a shared activity – they are making a tangible investment. It reinforces their commitment and makes them value the shared moments more. It’s about allowing him to provide, and genuinely appreciating his gestures. Ultimately, understanding the sunk cost fallacy psychology has been transformative for me. It's shifted my perspective from trying to prove my worth by being "easy" to understanding that allowing someone to invest in you, in various forms, actually increases your perceived value and deepens their commitment. It’s about creating a dynamic where both partners feel genuinely invested, respected, and essential to each other’s lives, fostering truly lasting sunk cost relationships built on mutual effort and appreciation.
