Fairbanks, Alaska

... Read moreOkay, so I just had to share about my incredible visit to the Georgeson Botanical Garden in Fairbanks, Alaska! If you're ever in the area, especially during late summer, you absolutely cannot miss their legendary peony season. Seriously, you guys, it's something out of a dream! I'd heard whispers about the garden's beauty, but nothing prepared me for seeing a vibrant field of pink, red, and white peonies in full bloom. It was just breathtaking! The sheer scale of the peony display is awe-inspiring, and the colors are so vivid against the lush green foliage and the backdrop of tall evergreen trees reaching for the bright blue sky with fluffy white clouds. It truly felt like stepping into a living painting. I spent ages just wandering through the rows, breathing in the sweet scent, and marveling at how perfectly each bloom unfurled. It's moments like these that truly define #summervibes for me! What makes the Georgeson Botanical Garden so unique is its location in a subarctic climate. It's fascinating to see what grows and thrives here, defying expectations. Beyond the peonies, which are definitely the star of the show for me, I loved exploring the other sections. They have an impressive array of arctic and subarctic plants, experimental vegetable plots, and even a lovely sensory garden. It’s not just pretty flowers; it’s a living laboratory, and you get to learn so much about sustainable gardening in challenging environments. I found myself lingering by the research plots, imagining the effort that goes into understanding how to cultivate food and flowers in this northern latitude. It really gave me a new appreciation for Alaskan agriculture. For anyone planning a trip to this amazing botanical garden in Fairbanks, here are a few tips I picked up. First, definitely aim for late July to early August for peak peony season – it's magical. Check their website or social media for exact bloom updates before you go. Wear comfortable shoes because you'll want to wander and explore every path. The garden pathways are well-maintained, but you'll be doing a lot of walking. I also recommend bringing a good camera; the photo opportunities are endless, especially with those stunning peonies! Pack some water and maybe a light snack too, as you can easily spend a couple of hours just soaking it all in. There are plenty of benches to sit and just take in the tranquility. Parking was easy, and the staff and volunteers were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, happy to answer all my questions about the different plant species. It’s a truly peaceful and rejuvenating escape, perfect for a sunny afternoon in Alaska. The quiet hum of nature, the gentle breeze, and the incredible visual feast make it an ideal spot for relaxation and reflection. Whether you're a seasoned gardener, a nature enthusiast, or just someone who appreciates natural beauty and a unique experience, the Georgeson Botanical Garden Fairbanks is a must-add to your itinerary. Trust me, your heart will thank you, and your camera roll will be full of vibrant memories!

This happens each time the temperature dips below 40° below zero. In fact, a line forms for people to rip off the snowpants and coat and gloves for a few seconds of this. The difficult part? Finding a smile. Lol #funwithweather #weatherfun #alaska #fairbanksalaska #travelling
