How I Use My iPad For School

One of the best decisions I’ve made in college is investing into an iPad. Although I had a MacBook, I always felt like it was necessary to buy another device to help side by side.

Little did I know this iPad would take over all of my duties!

Here is how I used my iPad for school:

1. Note taking

With this being so portable, I found myself downloading apps where I could take my notes (with my Apple Pencil). I didn’t have to waste paper or even be worried about messing up and trying to erase my notes. It was so convenient to flip through my notes on the iPad and properly organize everything where it needed to be.

2. My assignments

I found it so much easier to download, export and export all of my documents that it was on my laptop. It’s so convenient also when you need to sign or write something in. All of my assignments were given online rather than on paper, and this made is extremely convenient.

3. My textbook

Believe it or not, I found all of my college textbooks FOR FREE online. I would download it into my files and read without carrying multiple, and heavy textbook with me everywhere. My favorite part about this is that I could even highlight and add notes in the textbook, so I didn’t have to damage a paper copy one! This was my favorite feature to have on my iPad. A downloaded textbook I can bring with me anywhere and anytime!

4. Typing my essays

Although the keyboard came at an additional cost, I still think it’s a great investment. Typing my essays became so much easier when my screen was “touch screen”. It was easier to edit and to download my essays and documents and submit them into the Dropbox for my professor.

There are many more things I use my iPad for, and in greater detail I will explain that in a part two if you would like!

... Read moreWhen I first got my iPad for school, I knew it would be handy for note-taking, but I quickly realized its potential went far beyond that. It truly became the central hub for all my academic activities, making studying more efficient and even a little more enjoyable! Picking the Best Note-Taking Apps & Crafting Aesthetic Notes The original post mentioned using apps for note-taking, but let's dive deeper into some of the best ones. For me, apps like Goodnotes and Notability have been game-changers. They allow me to take fluid handwritten notes with my Apple Pencil, just like on paper, but with incredible advantages. I can easily search my notes, record lectures simultaneously, and choose from endless paper types. Apple Notes also offers fantastic handwritten note capabilities, especially with its quick note feature. To make my notes aesthetic and engaging, which is great for visual learners, I often use different pen colors, highlighters, and even add images or screenshots from my digital textbooks directly into my notes. This really helps information stick and makes reviewing a breeze, especially for subjects like English where pretty, organized layouts can be super helpful. Streamlining Assignments and Tackling Spreadsheets Beyond just notes, my iPad became indispensable for managing assignments. Many of my professors would upload PDFs, and with my Apple Pencil, I could easily mark them up, fill in blanks, or sign documents directly on the screen. No more printing, scanning, or rushing to find a pen! For subjects requiring calculations or data organization, I discovered the power of Apple Numbers. While the original article didn't explicitly mention spreadsheets, I've found it incredibly useful. I can use my Apple Pencil to quickly input data or highlight specific cells, making complex tasks much more manageable. It's a fantastic way to do schoolwork and homework without needing to lug around a heavy laptop for every task. Optimizing Digital Textbooks and Research Having all my textbooks on my iPad, as the original author mentioned, was a huge relief – and yes, finding them for free online is a massive perk! But the utility doesn't stop there. I often use the split-screen (Split View or Slide Over) feature on my iPad. This allows me to have my digital textbook open on one side while taking handwritten notes with my Apple Pencil on the other. It's perfect for active reading and ensures I'm always engaged with the material. For research, the iPad’s portability means I can easily browse academic papers, reference materials, and even organize articles using apps like Zotero or Mendeley, making the research process much more fluid wherever I am. Boosting Productivity with Peripherals and Smart Habits While the original post highlighted the keyboard for essays, which is definitely a worthy investment, there are other small habits that make a big difference. Utilizing my iPad's focus modes helps me stay on task during study sessions. I also love using widgets to quickly access my to-do lists or upcoming assignments. The seamless integration between my iPad, Apple Pencil, and other Apple devices means I can start a task on one and finish it on another, making my overall study workflow incredibly efficient. It's truly amazing how much schoolwork you can accomplish on an iPad when you set it up right!
