Revision Techniques You Need To Know 📝

Try out these four revision techniques when you study and see which one works best for you:

1. Chunking

2. Summarizing

3. Teach-back

4. Revision table

As I’ve mentioned a couple times before each back has been a game changer for ! I can remember information for longer periods of time without fail!

Which one works best for you?

... Read moreHey everyone! We've all been there – staring at a mountain of notes, wondering which study method will actually stick. Finding the 'best revision methods' isn't a one-size-fits-all journey, but I've learned that experimenting with a few MUST KNOW REVISION TECHNIQUES can truly transform your learning. It's about figuring out what clicks for *you*, and I wanted to dive a bit deeper into why these methods are so powerful and how you can truly master them. Take Chunking, for example. It’s more than just breaking down large topics; it's about outsmarting your brain's natural tendency towards cognitive overload. When I first tried it, I used to just rewrite notes. But the real magic happens when you actively reorganize information into logical, bite-sized sections. Think about creating mini-mind maps for each 'chunk' or turning a complex chapter into 3-4 key bullet points. This isn’t just about making it smaller; it’s about making it digestible for better retention. Then there’s Summarizing. This isn't just about making your notes shorter; it's a powerful tool for active engagement and boosting your comprehension. Instead of copying sentences, try to explain a concept in your own words, as if you're writing a tweet or explaining it to someone unfamiliar with the topic. I found that creating audio summaries on my phone while on a walk really helped me identify what I truly understood and what I was just passively reading. The act of condensing information forces your brain to process and prioritize. My absolute game-changer, as I mentioned, is the Teach-back method. It's incredible how much you solidify your understanding when you're teaching others. I don't always have a study buddy, so sometimes I 'teach' my dog (who's a great listener, by the way!) or even just talk out loud to myself in front of a mirror. This process immediately highlights your knowledge gaps. If you can't explain something simply, you probably don't understand it deeply enough. It’s the ultimate test of true retention. And finally, the Revision Timetable. This isn't just about jotting down 'study history' on Tuesday. It's about planning a revision schedule with specific time slots for each subject and even specific topics within those subjects. My biggest takeaway? Build in flexibility and, crucially, breaks! Consistent, shorter bursts of study, properly scheduled, are far more effective than marathon sessions that lead to burnout and prevent cramming last minute. Remember to schedule review days too – incorporating active recall like flashcards for topics you covered a week ago can make a huge difference. Ultimately, the 'best' method is the one you use consistently and effectively. Don't be afraid to mix and match these MUST KNOW REVISION TECHNIQUES. Try chunking for new, complex material, then summarize it, teach it back, and finally, integrate it into your revision timetable for spaced repetition. Happy studying!
