What I’m doing for FREE in Chelsea NYC! šŸš•šŸŽ

with the holidays coming up i have a few friends visiting in the new year and im excited to plan a weekend with them (on a budget!!)

our goal is to only spend money on food and keep everything else low budget since my friends have already been in nyc before!

Chelsea Market - i always love going here to see what new small vendors they have there, i feel like this is a good place for us to either window shop or get some unique souvenirs. also i go here for LOS TACOS No.1 only sometimes, their tacos are the best!!!

The High Line - this is a classic one to take in the view and walk up and down the high line! located right between chelsea and the next stop it’s the perfect place to sit and take a rest if needed

Vessel - last stop!! the vessel, from the outside it’s also a very pretty sight to take in. it’s a must stop for photos in nyc but if it’s too cold i definitely recommend going inside Hudson Yards for more window shopping! while shops in there are more than casual a break from the cold and just a little peek won’t hurt

... Read moreWhen I'm planning 'free weekend plans in January!' or any time of year, honestly, Chelsea, NYC, is always at the top of my list for budget-friendly fun. My friends are visiting soon, and since they've been to NYC before, I really want to show them some amazing free things to do beyond the usual tourist traps, focusing on the vibrant Chelsea neighborhood. First up, Chelsea Market is an absolute must-visit, even if you're not planning to splurge on food. I always love going here just to soak in the atmosphere. It’s housed in the former National Biscuit Company building – the same place where the Oreo cookie was invented! Walking through, you can admire the cool industrial architecture and window-shop at all the unique small vendors. From artisanal crafts to vintage finds, there’s always something new and interesting to see. It’s perfect for finding unique souvenirs without pressure to buy, and the energy alone is worth the visit. You can easily spend an hour or two just browsing and people-watching, which is completely free! Just a short walk from Chelsea Market is The High Line, a true urban oasis and one of my favorite free attractions. This elevated park, built on historic freight rail lines, offers incredible views of the city skyline and the Hudson River. Every time I walk along it, I discover something new – whether it’s a temporary art installation, a beautifully landscaped garden, or just a quiet bench perfect for resting and taking in the surroundings. It's a fantastic spot for photography, and it’s especially beautiful during sunset. I love how it connects different parts of the neighborhood, and it’s an ideal place to stretch your legs and enjoy some greenery above the bustling streets. Make sure to look out for the diverse public art scattered along the path; it changes periodically, so there's always a fresh perspective. Continuing north, you'll reach The Vessel at Hudson Yards. While you can’t go inside for free anymore, admiring this stunning architectural marvel from the outside is still a fantastic, free experience. It’s an incredibly photogenic structure, especially at night when it’s illuminated. Just next to it, Hudson Yards itself offers abundant opportunities for window shopping in its luxurious mall. It’s a great place to warm up on a chilly day or cool down on a hot one, and you can enjoy the elaborate displays without spending a dime. There are also often various public art pieces and installations around the plaza to enjoy. But Chelsea offers even more free delights! For art lovers, the Chelsea Art Galleries are a true gem. Many galleries, especially concentrated between 10th and 11th Avenues from 20th to 27th Streets, are completely free to enter. You can spend hours hopping from one gallery to another, exploring contemporary art from around the world. It’s a fantastic way to experience world-class culture without any cost. Another great free activity is simply strolling along the Chelsea Piers waterfront. You get stunning views of the Hudson River, the New Jersey skyline, and often see boats passing by. It’s a peaceful escape from the city’s hustle and bustle, perfect for a leisurely walk or just sitting and enjoying the fresh air. You can also explore charming side streets for beautiful architecture or seek out colorful street art and murals that pop up unexpectedly throughout the neighborhood. Remember to wear comfortable shoes, bring a reusable water bottle, and check online for any free community events happening during your visit – Chelsea always has something exciting going on!
