Everyone is not welcome at my house…

That’s my personal space. It’s where I lay my head, gather my thoughts, and gain my peace. It’s where my kids are free to roam, stretch out & be themselves without judgement. If you come to my house it’s because I want you there. I’ve never been big on company because all company may not be good company & no negative energy or toxicity will disturb where my spouse, kids & I reside ā¤ļø period.

... Read moreYou know that feeling when you walk through your front door and a wave of calm washes over you? That's exactly what I strive for – and what I've found – in my own home. My original post touched on it, but I really want to dive deeper into why my home isn't just a house; it's my absolute sanctuary. It's not just about keeping negative energy out, but actively cultivating a space that nurtures my soul and my family's well-being. For me, the 'why' runs deep. In today's fast-paced world, our minds are constantly bombarded. Work, social media, news – it's a lot. My home offers a precious refuge from that constant stimulation. It's where I can truly unplug, process my thoughts without interruption, and simply *be*. This deliberate protection of my personal space has become essential for my mental health. It's where I can recharge my batteries so I can show up as my best self for my kids and my spouse. Think of it as my personal wellness retreat, available 24/7. And it's not just for me. My children thrive in this environment. It's a place where they can truly let loose, be silly, explore their creativity, and feel completely safe and loved without any judgment. Knowing they have this secure base allows them to navigate the outside world with more confidence. It strengthens our family bonds, providing a consistent haven where we can connect, share, and grow together, free from external pressures. So, how do I actually create and maintain this sanctuary? It's a continuous journey, but here are some things that have really worked for me, and maybe they'll inspire you too: First, setting clear boundaries. This isn't just about who gets to walk through my front door. It extends to digital boundaries – limiting screen time, especially in shared family spaces, and being mindful of the news or social media I consume within these walls. If something brings negative energy, it simply doesn't get an invitation into my sanctuary. Next, decluttering is key. I truly believe that a cluttered space leads to a cluttered mind. Regularly going through things, donating what we don't need, and finding a place for everything has a profound impact on my sense of peace. It's not about being a minimalist, but about having intentionality with what you keep. I also love focusing on sensory comfort. Soft lighting, cozy throws, a favorite scented candle or essential oil diffuser (I love lavender and cedarwood!), and a playlist of calming music can transform a room. Even just the sound of silence can be incredibly restorative. These small details contribute immensely to the overall feeling of calm. Finally, personal touches make all the difference. My home reflects *us*. Family photos, art that speaks to me, plants that bring life into the space – these are the things that make it uniquely *ours*. It's about surrounding myself with things that spark joy and bring a smile to my face, just like when I catch my own reflection and see that happy, content woman looking back. Creating a home sanctuary is an ongoing act of self-care and love for your family. It's about intentionally designing a space that supports your well-being, allows for genuine connection, and acts as a fortress against the outside world's chaos. I hope sharing my experience helps you think about how you can cultivate your own slice of heaven right where you live.
