私がペチュニアの挿し芽（挿し木）で「成功率が上がったな」と感じたのは、3ステップに加えて“準備と管理”を丁寧にしたことでした。切り戻し後の枝でも増やせるので、花が伸びて乱れてきたタイミングでまとめて挿し芽にすると、玄関まわりがまたふわふわ満開になって嬉しいです。 まず、挿し芽に向く枝選び。元気で張りのある茎を選び、先端の柔らかすぎる部分より「少ししっかりした茎」を使うと安定しました。切り戻しで切った枝の中から、節（葉が出ているところ）が2〜3個あるものを選ぶと管理しやすいです。 次に、切り方のコツ。私は茎を斜めにカットしたあと、下葉はしっかり取って、残す大きな葉っぱは半分にカットしています（蒸散を減らして水切れしにくくするため）。ここをサボると、明るい日陰に置いていても葉がしおれやすかったです。つぼみやお花は落とします。可愛いけど、発根にエネルギーを使ってほしいので我慢。 水につける工程は、活力剤入りの水に1時間以上が私の定番。時間が取れる日はもう少し長めに。水は汚れると傷みやすいので、コップの水が濁ったら取り替えています。 土に挿すときは、いきなり差し込まずに「ぐりぐり穴を開けてね」と言われる通り、先に穴を作ってからそっと挿すのがポイント。茎の切り口が傷むと発根が遅れがちでした。土は赤玉土や挿し芽用土が安心ですが、ペチュニアは生育旺盛なので培養土でも根がつくことが多い印象です。心配なときは赤玉土スタート→発根後に植え替えがラクでした。 置き場所は直射日光を避けた明るい日陰。まだ根っこがないので乾きが大敵で、私は朝に土の表面を触って毎日チェックしています。お水をたっぷりかける日が続くと蒸れやすいので、風通しも意識すると失敗が減りました。 最後に目安。環境にもよりますが、私のところでは3週間ほどで発根してくることが多かったです。新芽が動き出したり、軽く引っ張って抵抗が出たら根が出たサイン。発根後は少しずつ日当たりに慣らし、肥料は根が落ち着いてから薄めにスタートしています。 ※品種登録されている苗は、増やして譲ったり販売するのはNGなので、自分で楽しむ範囲でペチュニア祭りを楽しみましょう。
