At Joganji Temple in Ogaki, Mino Province, Ichi Kuro offered to Shonin that he wanted to repent for all his sins. In response, Shonin recommended that he become a believer in Buddhism and give up his life to serve others. In this way, Ichi Kuro became a priest and left Joganji Temple to relieve suffering people through training under the name of Ryokai. As a sinner, Ryokai began tunnel construction to drive chisel (nomi) toward the great cliff with one heart.
Meanwhile, Sannosuke, a child of Saburoemon NAKAGAWA, goes on a journey to avenge his father. Ryokai, who is digging a chain crossing in Bungo Province, finds out that it is Ichikuro who killed Sannosuke's father. Frustrated by the unexpected incident, Sannosuke tries to attack Ryokai from behind in the cave, but when he sees Ryokai chanting sutras, he stops. Thinking that the only way to avenge was to finish the tunnel construction, Sannosuke and Ryokai began to chisel together. When the tunnel was completed 21 years after Ryokai started the tunnel construction, one year and six months later, Sannosuke's hatred completely disappeared and the two had forgotten everything. It is said that there was only a human bond that had suffered together...That's it.
