Kids Sandwich Crust Bread Pudding

🍋🍞 KID-SANDWICH-CRUST BREAD PUDDING 🍞🍋

Because apparently those leftover sandwich crusts had a higher calling. 😂✨

I had just enough bread scraps from the kids’ sandwiches to make a small batch, so instead of tossing them, I turned them into 3 adorable mini bread pudding loaves!

✨ YOU’LL NEED:

• 3 cups cubed/stale bread or sandwich crusts

• 1 cup milk

• 1½ eggs

• 6 Tbsp sugar

• 1 tsp vanilla

• ½ tsp cinnamon

• Pinch of nutmeg (optional)

• 2 Tbsp melted butter

• Raisins, chocolate chips, apples, etc. — totally optional!

🍞 HOW TO MAKE IT:

1️⃣ Preheat oven to 350°F and grease your baking dish or mini loaf pan.

2️⃣ Add your bread pieces to the pan.

3️⃣ Whisk together the milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and melted butter.

4️⃣ Pour the custard over the bread and gently press everything down so those little crusts can soak it all up.

5️⃣ Let it sit for 10–15 minutes if you have the patience. 😂

6️⃣ Bake at 350°F for about 25–35 minutes for mini loaves, until golden and the center is set.

7️⃣ Let them cool for about 10 minutes before removing them.

🍯 EASY VANILLA GLAZE

Mix:

• ½ cup powdered sugar

• 1–2 Tbsp milk

• ½ tsp vanilla

Drizzle over those warm little loaves and prepare to feel like you just made something fancy. 😂✨

💜 MOM HACK:

Those leftover sandwich crusts that nobody wants? SAVE THEM. Toss them in the freezer and make bread pudding when you've got enough.

... Read moreIf you've ever found yourself with a pile of leftover sandwich crusts from your kids' lunches, this bread pudding recipe is a fantastic way to make use of them instead of throwing away bread that's still perfectly good. One of the things I love most about this recipe is how flexible it is. While the base calls for cubed bread or sandwich crusts, milk, eggs, and basic spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, you can customize your bread pudding by adding raisins, chocolate chips, or diced apples to satisfy whatever your family prefers. This adds a great opportunity to get kids involved by letting them choose their favorite mix-ins, making the dessert feel more personal and fun. A key tip to getting a great texture is allowing the bread to soak in the custard mixture for 10–15 minutes before baking. This soaking time lets the bread absorb the creamy custard fully, resulting in moist and flavorful bread pudding with a golden, set center once baked. For convenience, preparing mini loaves, as suggested, is perfect for portion control and adorable presentation. This recipe also shines as a mom hack because it directly addresses the common issue of food waste. Freezing leftover sandwich crusts until you have enough for a batch not only saves money but also reduces kitchen waste. Plus, the simple vanilla glaze made with powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla helps elevate this humble dessert into something that tastes special, proving that a little effort can create a treat both kids and adults will love. In my experience, bread pudding made this way keeps well for a day or two in the fridge and can be enjoyed warm or cold, making it a convenient make-ahead dessert for busy families. Try experimenting with spices like nutmeg or even a dash of pumpkin pie spice during autumn months for a seasonal twist. Overall, turning leftover sandwich crusts into this easy bread pudding is a winning strategy for anyone looking to save money, reduce waste, and treat their family with comfort food that feels homemade and thoughtful.
