Wraith Beneath the Tides Review

If Pirates of the Caribbean crashed into Atlantis, this is the book you’d get… and I was hooked from the first chapter.

The enemies-to-lovers romance was everything I wanted. The tension between the FMC and MMC was so well done, and watching them slowly tear down each other’s walls made every interaction worth it.

But the real highlight? The FMC’s villain arc. 👏 Absolute chef’s kiss. I love a morally gray female lead who stops apologizing for her power, and this book delivered.

The underwater world-building, pirate vibes, magic, and high-stakes adventure kept me turning the pages. While there were a few moments where I wanted the pacing to be a little tighter, I still had such a great time reading it.

... Read moreWhen I first picked up 'A Wraith Beneath the Tides,' I was instantly intrigued by the promise of a story where Pirates of the Caribbean crashes into Atlantis. And let me tell you, it absolutely delivered on that epic mashup! As a reader, I'm always searching for those unique fantasy blends, and this book creates an immersive world that's both familiar and refreshingly new. The underwater setting isn't just a backdrop; it feels alive and integral to the high-stakes adventure. What truly kept me glued to the pages, however, was the incredible character development, especially the female lead. We're living in an era where readers crave complex, authentic protagonists, and this book offers a morally gray FMC who isn't afraid to embrace her power. I felt a real connection to her journey, watching her shed societal expectations and stop apologizing for who she is. It beautifully echoes the powerful sentiments I've seen, like the idea of 'fierce daughters' who refuse to have their 'wildfire' extinguished, or those who were taught to 'swallow their fire' finally spitting it back. This isn't just about a 'villain arc'; it's about a woman coming into her own, making tough choices, and defying conventional morality, which makes her so compelling. The enemies-to-lovers dynamic was expertly handled, with a slow-burn romance that built tension perfectly. It wasn't rushed or forced; instead, it blossomed organically amidst the chaos and danger of their world. Watching the characters gradually break down each other’s walls, revealing vulnerability and unexpected connection, was incredibly satisfying. This kind of nuanced relationship development is what makes a fantasy romance truly memorable. Beyond the romance, the book is brimming with magic, political intrigue, and thrilling action sequences that keep the plot moving at a captivating pace. The blend of fantastical elements with the gritty reality of pirate life and the mystique of an Atlantean-inspired world creates a rich tapestry that's hard to put down. If you're someone who appreciates books with strong thematic undertones of female empowerment, rebellion against oppression, and a narrative that encourages characters to 'choke on your flames' of doubt, then 'A Wraith Beneath the Tides' absolutely deserves a prime spot on your TBR pile. It's an adventure that resonates long after you've turned the final page.
