Ive come back to bunker gear life 👀

I've decided to leave Towing it's because the job doesn't allow me to spend time visiting my kids, or personal time. Almost 15 hours daily on the road, 14 days work with only 1 day off. It's not that I can't take it. But, they made me feel like a slave. Why would I want to stay? Money good so what?

I chose to come back to bunker gear life not only because I have SCDF Firefighter background. It's because I enjoy saving people and properties (same with towing) - but here, benefits, life progressions and off days are better.

Im sorry, I'm no longer your Gen Z Singaporean Tow Trucker. Ive moved on. #RealTalk

... Read moreMaking a career switch back to firefighting from towing isn't just about changing jobs—it's about reclaiming life balance and purpose. During my time as a tow truck driver, the grueling schedule of nearly 15 hours on the road daily, with only one day off after two weeks, left me little room to be with my family or pursue personal interests. Despite the decent pay, the demands felt overwhelming, and the sense of being controlled like 'a slave' took a toll on my mental and emotional health. Returning to bunker gear life has been transformative. Having a background with the SCDF Fire Brigade means I already cherished the mission of saving lives and protecting property. What tipped the scales was the improved benefits, clearer career progression, and crucially, more time off. Unlike the demanding towing shifts, firefighting offers a more balanced schedule, allowing me to nurture relationships and recharge, which is essential for sustaining such a high-pressure profession. I also noticed the strong camaraderie and sense of community within the fire brigade, which added to my job satisfaction. Wearing bunker gear isn't just about the uniform; it's a symbol of commitment to public service and teamwork. Moreover, the training and equipment, such as MSA gear used in firefighting, ensure safety and preparedness, which every firefighter relies on daily. For anyone feeling trapped in a high-demand job that offers little personal time, consider roles that better align with your values and lifestyle—especially ones where you're making a tangible difference in your community. My experience shows that foregoing extra income in favor of life balance and meaningful work leads to greater long-term happiness and fulfillment. If you’re contemplating a career change or return, weigh not just the paycheck but also benefits, personal satisfaction, and most importantly, time for your loved ones. The choice to don the bunker gear again reminds me why I started this journey—to serve others while living a life I can be proud of.

As a Singaporean, moving back to Bunker Gear life is crazy. Not donning one since 2017. (excluding ICT) - I must be crazy returning to this life. But, opportunity came. I can't just deny the opportunity. Towing was fun, and it's not because I can't sustain the long hours, 12/15 hour

Whether you like it or not, no matter how hard you try to avoid it, you’ll still find yourself in the bunker sometimes. You can play safe, plan well, do everything right and still end up in the sand. That’s why bunker practice matters. Not to avoid trouble but to know how to get out. L
