After driving from Melbourne city, we finally reached Lorne on day 2 after getting a good night’s rest at Geelong!
I heard multiple good things about the fish and chips in Lorne (VIC) so I knew that I had to swing by to try!
These 2 places have a LONG HISTORY of serving up good and authentic fish and chips. We got ours from 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐃𝐨𝐠 𝐅𝐢𝐬𝐡 & 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐲 and 𝐋𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬.
For the same item, they had the exact same price! We got the Family Pack from Salty Dog + garlic aioli (AUD44.90) and the classic Fish and Chips (AUD16.80) from Lorne. The family pack would be good for 2-3 people!
FIRST UP, BOTH FRIES WERE RLY GENEROUSLY SALTED which were a lil 😨😵💫 too much for us!! (personal preference) BUT they were both comparably fluffy and crispy. Both fishes were honestly quite enjoyable, but we found that Salty Dog’s tasted slightly soft and flakier which was more enjoyable. Lorne’s bottom 1/3 of the fish was also quite salty.
I GOTTA SAY THE AUSSIEs DO CALAMARIS SO WELL!!!! 🫨🫨🫨 Every time I eat them, they are never tough to chew while being so soft and fresh. HIGHLY RECCO!!!
The fried scallop was quite big and still had the roe on. Quite tasty but wished it stayed crispy for longer!
Fried prawns were done well :-) Enjoyable but nothing too crazy 🦐🍤
Great pit stop here on the way down the Great Ocean Road :)
