My Simple Fall Outfit Formula! 🖤🍂☕️
My Simple Fall Outfit Formula!
I am every bit of a big pant, little top kinda girl! It’s the perfect silhouette for my body type and it works each and every time! I love styling dress pants year round but especially in the fall and winter! They are the perfect staple piece and go with literally everything! An outfit formula that always works for me is some baggy dress pants, a cropped top and some form of outer wear. It can be a cropped blazer like this look but it can also be an oversized blazer, a jacket or even a long coat.
So long as the base is dress pants of some sort and a shirt that sits close to the body, you can go crazy on outerwear. I styled this look with some sneakers and my go-to top handle bag. Figuring out outfit formulas like this one which work for your body-type as well as your style is key to dressing well year round!

Ever felt overwhelmed by your wardrobe, especially when the seasons change? Finding your personal 'outfit formula' has been a total game-changer for me, making getting dressed in the morning so much easier and more enjoyable. It’s not about having endless clothes, but about knowing what works for your body and your lifestyle. For fall, my go-to has been a simple yet effective "big pant, little top" combination. This isn't just a trend; it's a silhouette that perfectly balances proportions and creates a super flattering look. Imagine dark wide-leg pants paired with a sleek black cropped top, topped with a versatile dark cropped blazer. Add some comfy sneakers and a classic black handbag, and you’ve got a chic, simple and casual fall style for 2024 that works for almost any casual occasion. The beauty of this is how easily you can adapt it to fit your type of outfit. But how do you discover your own signature formulas? Think of it like building a mini wardrobe "app" in your head. Start by identifying your core style preferences: Do you love comfort? Are you drawn to classic pieces, or more edgy trends? What activities do you do most often? Then, consider these simple formulas: The Proportional Play: This is my "big pant, little top" formula. It emphasizes balancing volume. If you have baggy trousers or a flowy skirt (the "big"), pair it with something more fitted on top (the "little"), like a slim-fit knit or a cropped top. Conversely, if your top is oversized, go for slimmer bottoms. This creates a pleasing flattering silhouette. The Layered Comfort: A classic go-to for fall. Start with a foundational piece like your favorite jeans or a comfortable midi dress. Add a cozy, textured sweater or a long-sleeve tee. Finish with a practical yet stylish outer layer – think a denim jacket, a long cardigan, or a lightweight trench coat. Accessorize with comfortable footwear like ankle boots or loafers. The Elevated Basic: Sometimes, all you need is to upgrade your everyday staples. A well-fitting pair of trousers (not necessarily wide-leg, but perhaps a straight cut), a high-quality basic tee, and a structured blazer. The magic happens with accessories: a statement belt, elegant loafers instead of sneakers, and a more structured black handbag. Now, you might be thinking, "But what about a gala dinner outfit?" While these formulas are fantastic for everyday casual and smart-casual wear, they aren't designed for formal events. The goal here is to master effortless daily style. However, you can certainly elevate these casual formulas for a dinner out or a slightly dressier gathering. Swap out your sneakers for a heeled boot or sleek pumps. Exchange a basic black cropped top for one in a luxurious fabric like silk or satin. Instead of a casual blazer, consider a tailored jacket in a richer material. The key is to refine the fabrics and accessories while keeping the core comfortable structure. For truly formal occasions like a gala, you'd be looking at entirely different attire, but for nailing that 'polished casual' look, these formulas are your best friend. Finding what truly makes you feel confident and comfortable is the ultimate styling goal.
