☀️ SPF IS THE ANTI-AGING STEP I WISH I STARTED SOONER
I feel like most of us grow up thinking sunscreen is only for beach days, pool days, or when we know we’re going to burn.
But SPF is one of those small skincare habits that matters way more than you realize when you’re younger.
Sun damage doesn’t always show up right away. It can build over time and later show up as dark spots, uneven tone, texture, fine lines, and premature aging.
UVB rays are the ones most connected to burning, but UVA rays are sneakier because they’re more connected to aging and dark spots. That’s why you can still be getting sun damage even if you don’t end the day with a sunburn.
A few SPF reminders I wish I knew sooner:
• You don’t have to burn to be getting sun damage
• A tan is still your skin reacting to UV exposure
• Small daily exposure adds up over time
• Broad-spectrum SPF matters
• SPF 30+ is a good everyday goal
• Reapplying matters if you’re outside, sweating, or swimming
• Prevention is so much easier than trying to reverse damage later
Also, if you like tanning oils or tanning accelerators, you don’t necessarily have to skip them — I just wouldn’t use them as my sunscreen.
I’d do sunscreen first, let it dry down, then use a tanning oil or accelerator over top if I still want that summer glow. Just don’t mix it into your sunscreen or rely on something like SPF 6 as your main protection.
Some affordable SPF options I’ve seen recently:
• Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Touch SPF 30 — Target, around $9.99
• Black Girl Sunscreen SPF 30 — Target, around $15.99
• Neutrogena Clear Face SPF 50 — Walmart, around $12.48
• Sun Bum SPF 30 Lip Balm — Target, around $3.89
SPF doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the sun. It just means protecting your skin while you do.
Your future skin will thank you for the boring habits you start now. 🤍
💾 Save this as your reminder to stop treating SPF like an optional step.
