How long do you visit your parents for?

My parents got divorced when I was teen and I was raised alot more by my mother and my dad and I never were too close, but he still lives nearby so I still visit him a few times a year because he's family and I love him despite what happened between my parents.

Thing is when I visit, all we really do is talk abit, watch tv, and maybe eat something. I'm not constantly thinking about leaving, but after 2 or 3 hours it kinda becomes stale for me because we don't really have any deep conversation or watch anything super exciting.

Am I doing something wrong here? Anyone else ever stuck in a situation like this? What do I do?

... Read moreVisiting parents can often be a nuanced experience, particularly after events like divorce. Many individuals find themselves in a similar situation, feeling uneasy about the depth of conversations or the duration of their visits. It's essential to recognize that everyone's family dynamics are different. If your visits feel stale or lack excitement, consider planning activities that encourage interaction. This could include playing games, cooking together, or even watching a movie that prompts discussion. By initiating more engaging conversations, you can break the routine of small talk and foster a deeper connection with your parent. Asking open-ended questions about their experiences, interests, or memories can stimulate dialogue and enrich your time together. Also, don't hesitate to express your feelings if you sense your visits lack substance. Open communication about your desire for more meaningful interactions can lead to improvements. Sometimes, just sharing your concerns can open the door to more profound conversations. Finally, remember that your relationship with your parents is unique, and finding a balance that works for both parties is key. Whether it's adjusting the frequency of visits or introducing new activities, all it takes is a little effort to revitalize those family connections.

Your not doing anything wrong you just maybe need to find something you and him have in common like a sport and maybe go to games or art or painting and do somethings out side of the house .
