✨ Store in an airtight jar so it stays crisp
Let me know what you think! Break the brittle into rustic shards and fill small mason jars. Add a ribbon and you’ve got the perfect holiday host gift.
Peanut brittle is a classic confection loved for its crunchy texture and sweet, nutty flavor. Making it in small batches, like this recipe, is not only manageable for beginners but also reduces waste and allows for fresh, crisp results every time. Key to perfect peanut brittle is cooking sugar and corn syrup to the precise hard crack stage at around 300 degrees Fahrenheit; this ensures the brittle will set properly and have that signature snap. Avoid stirring the syrup mixture while boiling to prevent crystallization, which can ruin the texture. Incorporating baking soda at the end creates a foamy texture which lightens the brittle, making it less dense and easier to bite. Using salted roasted peanuts enhances flavor depth, balancing sweetness with a touch of saltiness. For variations, you can experiment with different nuts like almonds, cashews, or pecans. Serving peanut brittle in decorative mason jars tied with ribbons makes thoughtful homemade gifts, especially during the holiday season. To keep your brittle fresh and maintain its crunch, always store it in an airtight container away from humidity. Sprinkling flaky sea salt on top while still warm creates a delightful contrast that elevates the taste. Safety tips include being cautious when handling hot sugar syrup as it can cause severe burns. Using a candy thermometer helps achieve consistent results. With practice, small-batch peanut brittle can become your go-to treat for festive occasions or anytime you crave a sweet, crunchy snack.
